Legendary horror game Amnesia: The Dark Descent and A Machine for Pigs is now open source, meaning that modders can dig in and see what lies underneath the hood of both games.

The full source code for The Dark Descent and A Machine for Pigs has been released on Github for folks who want to take a crack at modifying the game. It’s relatively rare for developers to post their game codes themselves, though sometimes proprietary code can make its way online via leaks.

Xbox will let you install games before you buy them

A new feature coming to the Xbox operating system allows players to download any game before its launch — whether they’ve pre-ordered it from the Xbox store or not — so that games on disc are as ready-to-go as their digital versions.

Jerko Cilas, a writer for Lords of Gaming, noted the capability on Twitter Wednesday afternoon. He activated the download using the Android version of the Xbox mobile app that’s in beta right now.

Updating to iOS 14 could delete Fortnite from your iPhone, Epic warns

Last week Apple released the latest version of its mobile operating system, called iOS 14. But while many iOS 14 users are enjoying customizing their home screens with widgets, players who have diligently kept Fortnite installed on their phones may end up accidentally deleting the game if they update.

According to a tweet from the Fortnite Status Twitter account, which keep players up to date on the technical side of the game, upgrading to the new Apple operating system could result in Fortnite being deleted from your phone. The iOS upgrade will reportedly ask some users if they’d like to “Temporarily Remove Apps to Install the Software Update” and, if they select yes, Fortnite is likely to be deleted.

On Tuesday, a dataminer leaked files that sound a lot like the actors from the 1995 motion picture, Mortal Kombat, alleged to have been sourced from inside existing Mortal Kombat 11 game code. Warner Bros. Entertainment issued a copyright claim against the video shortly after the sound files were leaked online, which took the video offline.

Polygon has reached out to Warner Bros. and the team at NetherRealm Studios for comment.

The trailer starts with radio chatter as two characters navigate dark and abandoned tunnels. They mention that they need to find a way to power the trains, and that there are enemies coming through the tunnels. One of the operators is revealed to be Farah, from the Modern Warfare campaign, who takes out all the enemies in the tunnel then radios to a man named Nikolai.

No Man’s Sky: Origins update adds millions of new planets, more diversity, and sandworms

No Man’s Sky’s latest update, Origins, drops today, and it gives players millions of new planets to discover. Those strange new worlds will look markedly different from the millions players have already seen over the past four years during their journey through the massive, procedurally generated spacefaring game.

Hello Games’ new additions to No Man’s Sky include moving weather systems, with extreme events like tornados and lightning storms; never-before-seen flora and fauna that exhibit new behaviors, like burrowing and improved flocking; bigger mountains, deeper oceans, steeper cliffs, and enormous buildings housing new discoveries. There are active volcanoes and meteor showers, additions that not only look cool, but have a real gameplay impact, Hello Games says.

Whoops, some folks got an Xbox One instead of a Series X pre-order

Xbox Series X and S pre-orders opened on Tuesday morning, and while some folks struggled to complete their transactions, other fans might have found the process easy. Maybe too easy.

As noted by Andrew Alerts on Twitter, orders for the Xbox One X — that is, the current generation of Microsoft gaming hardware — have increased today. Now, some of these folks undoubtedly wanted exactly what they got; maybe they decided the hassle of spending hundreds of dollars on a next-gen console wasn’t worth it. But some others appear to have made a mistake.
