Warframe heads to next-gen consoles, with cross-play and saves

Warframe, the hack-n-slash, free-to-play, far future looter shooter is heading to the PlayStation 5. While Warframe will make its way to the Xbox Series X eventually, its next-gen debut will take place on the PlayStation, and that gives us a look at the future of this online game.

The first, and most obvious change, will be the graphics. Warframe will run at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second, as well as offer lower loading times and dynamic lighting. There will also be a game-wide texture remaster. This will make going through missions or exploring one of the game’s three open worlds smoother and, of course, prettier. Warframe has continuously been updating its planets and settings, like overhauls to Jupiter or the Corpus faction, and this next-gen improvement will further improve the new tile sets and zones.

Here’s how to transfer your games from PS4 to PS5

The PlayStation 4’s games are playable on the PlayStation 5. Here’s how you get them from the former machine to the latter.

By far the best and fastest method is to break out an ethernet cord — remember those? — and start the download using the local network option. You could do it wirelessly, or even upload everything to the cloud and download that to your new console, but that sounds painfully laborious, even if you have a superfast connection.

Demon’s Souls remake fixes game’s notoriously ugly character creator

The original Demon’s Souls for PlayStation 3 gave players an extensive suite of character creation tools, a long list of sliders that tweaked everything from cheekbones to eyebrows to jawlines. The results, however, often ranged from doofy to derpy to downright Monster Factory freak of nature. In other words, it was hard to make your Demon’s Souls character look good, which was acceptable, because you were probably going to walk around with a helmet on most of the time.

The Demon’s Souls remake for PlayStation 5 will include a similarly in-depth but now much better-looking character creator, as revealed Thursday on the PlayStation Blog.

Here’s how Apex Legends, Star Wars: Squadrons, and other EA games work on PS5, Xbox Series X

Electronic Arts revealed its backward compatibility plans for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on Thursday, laying out how its current-generation games will play on the next-generation consoles. The publisher will have a host of upgrades available for its recent and popular games — here’s a look at how things will work.

Madden NFL 21 and FIFA 21 are getting next-gen upgrades on Dec. 4. As with many current-gen-to-next-gen games, players who already own them on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One will be able to get the upgraded versions for free. Madden players will be able to carry over progress in Ultimate Team, The Yard, and both franchise modes; FIFA players will be able to maintain progress in Ultimate Team and the street soccer mode, Volta Football.

Apex Legends’ season 7 patch adds Horizon and a new map, Olympus

Apex Legends season 7 is here. Horizon, the game’s latest Legend, and the new map Olympus are certainly the highlights of the new season. But on top of those standout additions, this season’s patch also brings tons of balance changes to both the other Legends and to the game’s weapons. On top of balance changes, Apex Legends is also finally available on Steam.

To go along with Olympus, the new map, Respawn has also added vehicles to Apex Legends for the first time in season 7. These vehicles are called Tridents, and they can carry an entire squad of players around the streets of Olympus. Of course, you’ll need to be careful when you’re driving, since Tridents are loud and can make you a prime target as you zip around the map.

Sony: PS5 won’t be sold in retail stores on launch day, sales are online only

PlayStation fans who were hoping to secure a launch-day PlayStation 5 console by visiting a retail store in person (or camping out for a first crack at one) seem to be out of luck. Sony says that PS5 sales will be conducted in an online-only capacity on Nov. 12, when the next-gen console launches in North America (and on Nov. 19 in other regions), as a preventive measure during the pandemic.

“In the interest of keeping our gamers, retailers, and staff safe amidst COVID-19, today we are confirming that all day-of launch sales will be conducted through the online stores of our retail partners,” Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Sid Shuman said Thursday in a PlayStation Blog post.

New Among Us patch adds anonymous voting, colorblind support

A new patch for Among Us was released on Monday, adding some highly anticipated features, like colorblind support for the wire-fixing tasks.

Now each side of the wires will have symbols, so you’ll know which ends to line up, even if you have a hard time parsing the colors. In addition to this, accessories, like sticky notes that say “DUM” or fried eggs, will show up in the discussion lobby, rather than just showing your plain crewmate.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will take up less space at launch

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is already expected to be a massive game, both in terms of its hype and file size. In fact, in its original system specifications for Windows PC, Treyarch said that the game would need up to 250 GB of storage space. However, Treyarch has clarified that that number can be a little lower, if players choose so.

When players install Black Ops Cold War, they’ll have to install the whole game, but will be able to uninstall the modes they don’t want after that — a feature that recently came to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone on PC. This means that console players will need a set amount of storage to first load the game, however. Here are the requirements for each console:
