Destiny 2: Beyond Light’s most charming quest dialogue is a result of COVID

In Destiny 2: Beyond Light, there’s a new quest for a Stasis-powered grenade launcher, Salvation’s Grip. It’s the only weapon that uses the new element, and it’s one of the weirder Exotics in the game. But the quest to get Salvation’s Grip also has some of the goofiest dialogue in the game: Ghost impersonating The Drifter.

During the mission, Guardians are going on a heist to steal this new weapon prototype from the Fallen. And Ghost — after Drifter challenges Ghost to “sell” the mission to the Guardian — decides to impersonate the rogue lightbearer, giving mocking commands in his best space-cowboy voice.

Over a million people watched YouTubers delete a popular channel

One of the most unusual YouTube channels of the year came into existence with an expiration date. Unus Annus, the brainchild of gaming YouTubers Mark “Markiplier” Fischbach (27.5 million subscribers) and Ethan “Crankgameplays” Nestor (1.8 million subscribers), would upload a video every single day for a year. And then, at the end of said year, the YouTubers were going to delete the channel from existence.

Don’t bother looking it up. It’s already gone. Fischbach and Nestor are both reportedly also doing what they can to keep re-uploads of Unus Annus videos off the internet, to preserve the sanctity of the collaboration.

A PS5 simulator for everyone who couldn’t get the console

A PS5 simulator for everyone who couldn’t get the console

Video game developer Alex Grade couldn’t afford a new PlayStation 5 — and even if they could, Sony’s next-gen console is selling out quickly, resulting in scalpers hocking the PS5 for thousands of dollars. Instead of dropping an unreasonable amount of cash, Grade did the next best thing. They built a simulator that gives them the satisfaction of setting up a PlayStation 5 without actually having to drop a dime.

And, let’s be real. A big part of the experience for early adopters is that moment when you open up the box, take the hardware out, and hook it up to your TV. There’s a reason why unboxing videos are so popular on YouTube. Some folks are buying new TVs or upgrading their audio systems specifically to accommodate new consoles, so there’s something genuinely exciting about the lead-up to actually playing a game. PS5 Simulator captures all of that.

TimeSplitters 2 Remake not happening, THQ Nordic says

Sorry folks. A TimeSplitters 2 remake is not in the works, says THQ Nordic.

The publisher had to make that statement over the weekend after players discovered an Easter egg in THQ Nordic’s SpellForce 3, whose Fallen God expansion launched on Nov. 3. It seems an in-world vendor has a lot of bogus junk to sell, among his wares a box for “TimeSplitters 2 Remake.”

Demon’s Souls remake players discover secret door that wasn’t in original game

While the PlayStation 5 remake of Demon’s Souls hews closely to the original game in terms of its design, developer Bluepoint Games has made a few intriguing changes to FromSoftware’s groundbreaking role-playing game. The studio has also apparently added a new mystery to Demon’s Souls, one that players haven’t been able to unravel yet.

Over the weekend, players discovered a hidden door behind one of Demon’s Souls’ illusory walls. Those illusions are normally limited to the Shrine of Storms region in the original Demon’s Souls, but players of the PS5 remake found a new illusory wall in the third section of the game’s first region, Boletarian Palace.

Bugsnax’s development bugs featured a violently spinning popstar

Bugsnax, the goofy and delicious creature catching game centered around food-based critters, had some hilarious problems while in development.

The game relies on physics and good timing to catch the Bugsnax in traps, so while we expected there to be bugs of the critters launching across the map or flinging wildly out of place, we were greeted with Grumpus bugs. Grumpus, the fuzzy Muppet-esque creatures, are the sentient talking beings that you help out. (You are a Grumpus in the game, too.)

Sick of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s raven? Make it a pigeon

Although Ubisoft Montreal nerfed Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s bird pal in the Viking era game, Sýnin the raven is pretty cool. But there is one thing that can make it better: Turn it into a pigeon.

I know what you’re thinking. A pigeon? How is that better than a raven? I guess this is not applicable to all, but I have a real fondness for the birds. I like ravens, too — but I don’t see them all too often. But there’s a family of pigeons that live in my neighbor’s gutters, and I enjoy listening to their muffled coos when walking my dog. That’s why I was particularly excited to add this majestic bird to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. And you can do it, too.

How to find your PS5’s captured gameplay and screenshots

The PlayStation 5 offers some impressive built-in capture tools, allowing you to grab gameplay clips and screenshots at 4K resolution with HDR color (including videos at 60 frames per second). But if you don’t know the PS5’s user interface very well — understandable, since it’s, y’know, new and all — you might have trouble finding those captures so you can share them with the world.

Captured screenshots and videos live within the PS5’s Media Gallery. In the main tab of the app, you’ll see thumbnails of your screenshots and clips, whether you’ve taken them yourself or a game did. If you have a USB external drive plugged in, you can tab over to the right to browse the folders on the drive for files that the PS5 is compatible with. (See our PS5 FAQ for specific information about playing media stored on an external drive.)
