Super Nintendo World theme park opens Feb. 4 — see the new Mario Kart ride

Super Nintendo World — part of the larger Universal Studios Japan theme park — will open Feb. 4, Universal Studios announced Monday. The theme park is said to be opening with two main rides: a Mario Kart ride and a Yoshi’s Adventure ride. In the announcement Monday, the companies showed off the Mario Kart portion of the world.

The Mario Kart ride will be called Koopa’s Challenge, which kicks off inside Bowser’s castle. Universal Studios published some of its own photos of the ride, but you can watch a video tour of the attraction via Bloomberg.

Official Pokémon face masks now on sale

Pokémon fans looking to mask up this winter have a new option: clothier Original Stitch, the company behind the Pokémon Shirts brand of custom shirts. The Original Stitch website is now taking orders for face masks and bandanas in 151 pattern variations, based on the Pokémon that debuted in Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue.

Original Stitch’s Pokémon face masks use the same fabric patterns featured in its Pokémon Shirts. The fabric used in its masks comes from leftover materials used in tailoring Original Stitch’s shirts in Japan, the company said in a news release.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla patch adds 60 fps for PS5 and Xbox Series X

A new Assassin’s Creed Valhalla patch is adding 60 frames per second support and fixing a handful of bugs.

The biggest part of the update allows PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions of the game to run on “performance” mode, allowing the game to adapt the settings to maintain 60 fps. You can also choose “quality” mode, which lets the game run at maximum resolution while maintaining 30 fps.

Twitch bot does nothing but check PS5 and Xbox Series X stock all day

Getting your hands on a PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X this holiday season is a major challenge. Not only are consumers competing against each other, they’re competing against bots and resellers who are hoping to profit from new console scarcity. One bot, which you can watch on Twitch, may offer some help. It’s checking stock at a variety of online retailers every second.

The Twitch channel is run by Cameron Ritz, who used a publicly available program called Streetmerchant — billed as “the world’s easiest, most powerful stock checker” — to monitor PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles at Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, NewEgg, Walmart, and other retailers. Watching the stream is currently a big wall of disappointment; hundreds of updates every minute show “OUT OF STOCK” everywhere.

Pokémon fans beg Game Freak to let them finish their battles

Pokémon fans beg Game Freak to let them finish their battles

It used to be that, while fighting other players in Pokémon games, you were given 60 minutes to finish the duel. But in Pokémon Sword and Shield, a standard six-on-six battle is afforded a measly 20-minute timer for the entire proceedings — and according to hardcore devotees, that’s nowhere near enough time.

This is likely why competitive Pokémon player and content creator pokeaimMD’s recent campaign #BringBackTimer has made strides within the community after a recent YouTube upload where he explains the severity of the problem. As it stands, 20 minutes is often not enough to even finish a battle. So it’s possible to lose a fight without actually having all of your monsters wiped out. Alternatively, it’s possible to win a fight without knocking out all of your opponent’s Pokémon. This limitation, pokeaimMD argues, makes battling in Pokémon Sword and Shield feel less fulfilling.

Cuphead developer delays Delicious Last Course DLC to 2021

Cuphead’s final episode is going to need even more time in the oven. Developer Studio MDHR announced Wednesday that Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course has been delayed to 2021. The add-on was originally planned for release in 2019, but was delayed to 2020 last summer. Now the game’s final piece of downloadable content is slated for release next year.

Studio MDHR said it wants to continue refining Cuphead’s DLC, and won’t compromise on the game’s quality in pursuit of releasing the add-on this year.

Fallout 76’s Brotherhood of Steel update arrives a week early

Fallout 76 fans get to unwrap their gifts a little early this year, as the Steel Dawn update has published early. Originally, the Brotherhood of Steel patch was meant to be released on Dec. 1. However, circumstances changed after the update was pushed to Xbox early. Bethesda explained the situation in a post on the official Fallout site, writing:

Earlier today, there was an error that caused players in our Xbox community to download the Steel Dawn Update ahead of schedule, but prevented them from actually playing. We immediately investigated ways to get our Xbox players back in-game as soon as possible, but, through our discussions, the entire BGS team felt confident that Steel Dawn is ready to go.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order mod adds a perfect Mandalorian

With Star Wars 1313 canceled, the chances of us getting a Star Wars game about bounty hunters in the near future is looking pretty grim. Thankfully, a helpful modder has arrived to give us the next-best thing: Din Djarin in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

NexusMod user AlexPo21 added the lead character from The Mandalorian to the game, complete with his full costume from the show’s second season. The Din Djarin character model comes with custom cosmetic options, including the option to wear his cape and jetpack. According to AlexPo21, the model works best when combined with the Stormtrooper voice pack mod for the game — which was originally created by the user KillerCarth.
