Microsoft Flight Simulator arrives for Xbox Series X summer 2021

Microsoft Flight Simulator will be available on the Xbox Series X beginning in the summer of 2021. The game will be available for purchase as a download and as part of the Xbox Game Pass program. The announcement was made Thursday during The Game Awards.

The remarkable simulation game launched for Windows PC on Aug. 18. It blends real-world satellite and photographic data with live weather, air traffic, and more to create a realistic interpretation of the entire planet. Microsoft Flight Simulator allows players to fly anywhere they want using VFR (visual flight rules), as well as more sophisticated navigational techniques. It also includes dozens of airplanes, as well as an in-game store for adding new scenery, gameplay scenarios, and more. All of that will be making the transition to console.

Here’s what Elite Dangerous looks like as a first-person shooter

The first paid update for Elite Dangerous in more than five years, Elite Dangerous: Odyssey, will add tens of thousands of new locations to the game along with traditional first-person shooter gameplay. Frontier Developments unveiled the first look at the action on Thursday during The Game Awards. The expansion is expected to launch in early 2021.

Elite Dangerous is a comically large video game with more than 400 billion star systems in all. So far, players have only been able to experience it from the first-person perspective of a pilot cruising the Milky Way galaxy. Odyssey adds FPS elements for the first time, allowing players to have their own Neil Armstrong moment — giving them the ability to set foot on trillions of distant worlds.

Disco Elysium is getting a final cut on next-gen consoles

Disco Elysium released in 2019, and it’s a dense little role-playing game with a lot of heart, where you can strip nude, embarrass your colleagues, sob over the phone, talk to a cast of well-realized but ridiculous characters, and explore a gorgeous but surreal world. At The Game Awards on Thursday, ZA/UM announced that the game is getting a final cut to be released on consoles, with voice acting, more dialogue, and new areas.

Leading up to The Game Awards, the game’s official site showed a red and white graphic: an off-balance star, framed by a stag’s horns, with the word “soon” underneath. On Dec. 10, the site updated again with a cheeky new message: “sooner.”

Geoff Keighley’s big annual event, The Game Awards, included the reveal of a dark trailer that starts off in a cell, with a prisoner who has some sort of green glowing tech embedded into the back of his neck. If it gives you some Dead Space vibes, Visceral Game’s now-defunct third person sci-fi horror series, that’s intentional.
