Pokémon Go creator wins $5M settlement from hack creators

A cheatmaker creating hacks for Pokémon Go, Ingress, and Harry Potter Wizards Unite has agreed to a $5 million settlement following a lawsuit filed by creator Niantic, Inc. in 2019. The final judgement on the case, which also granted Niantic a permanent injunction, was filed in a California district court on Tuesday.

First reported by TorrentFreak, the hacking group called Global++ created three infringing programs: PokeGo++, Potter++, and Ingress++, each of which were hacked versions of the relative games using Niantic’s game’s code. Using Niantic’s code, Global++’s apps were “tweaked” versions of Niantic’s games, allowing players the ability to spoof their GPS and use “auto-walk” functions, among other features.

World of Warcraft players can now pick up animal friends in Torghast

World of Warcraft players working their way through the latest expansion Shadowlands should be familiar with the ominous tower of Torghast by now. This roguelike-style dungeon tasks players with running through multiple floors and picking up powers along the way. A new event changes Torghast up, providing players with a big burly beast ally to help them clear their way through the Jailer’s tower.

When players zone into a Torghast wing, they’ll be offered four choices. Two of those will be their typical Torghast upgrades, but the other two will be marked with “Beasts of Prodigum.” These are special powers that give the player access to a beast. There are currently three allies: Valioc, who damages and silences nearby enemies, Nal’tari, who gives the player a ton of haste, and Horgul, who taunts and stuns enemies.

Call of Duty: Warzone’s latest patch fixes the infinite Stim glitch

A new Call of Duty: Warzone update is here with a much-needed fix to a frustrating glitch. The new patch also brings a few balance changes to the game, including more DMR-14 nerfs.

The infinite Stim glitch allowed players to gain infinite use of the tactical equipment Stim, which quickly regenerates health, just by dropping their weapon while cooking a grenade. This simple activation process meant that the glitch was easily repeatable, so anyone who wanted to could use it with no problem. Thankfully, with this fix the glitch should be gone for good now.

Lederhosen Luigi is the wurst new addition to Mario Kart Tour

I have not played Mario Kart Tour yet, but Nintendo has finally added a feature that has absolutely convinced me to play. You can now race in a hot dog kart. You can see the hot dog kart — which Lederhosen Luigi is dutifully riding — in the image above. Naturally, Luigi is also holding a toasted weenie while riding his new kart. Is that not the wurst thing you’ve seen all day? Two hands on the wheel, bud!

The “Fast Frank” kart (as well as Luigi’s new ’fit) is part of Mario Kart Tour’s new location: Berlin. See, now it all makes sense. The Berlin Tour in Mario Kart Tour is available now through Jan. 26.

Super Mario 3D World on Switch will add online play, photo mode

When Super Mario 3D World makes the leap from Wii U to Nintendo Switch in February, it will add more than just the Bowser’s Fury bonus adventure. The Switch port of Super Mario 3D World will also feature some welcome new additions, including online cooperative play, a photo mode, and faster movement for Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Toad.

In a new video overview trailer for Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, Nintendo detailed what’s new in the 3D platformer. Online play for up to four friends is new to Super Mario 3D World, and it requires a Nintendo Switch Online membership. Snapshot mode will let players pause the action, take pictures, apply visual filters, and decorate the world with collectible stamps. And Nintendo fans who played 3D World on Wii U will notice that Mario and friends move considerably quicker than they did in 2013.

Twitch’s rotating PogChamp results in harassment for streamers

Twitch is replacing the PogChamp with a new community face every day for the rest of the year, and while the platform’s intentions were good, the actual rollout has been messy. Some streamers who have been highlighted under the new initiative have been experiencing heightened harassment during their PogChamp tenure, and many fans want the live streaming service to be more proactive in its efforts to support these streamers.

PogChamp is one of the most popular emotes on the platform, but Twitch removed the original, which was the face of Ryan “Gootecks” Gutierrez, from its service after Gutierrez used social media to incite “further violence” following the attack on Capitol Hill last week. Twitch also banned Donald Trump’s Twitch page to “prevent Twitch from being used to incite further violence.”
