Animal Crossing will get the Hello Kitty crossover that fans have been begging for

Since release, fans of Animal Crossing: New Horizons have bemoaned the omission of certain promotional items available in New Leaf, but a new partnership between retailer Target and Nintendo aims to change that. Sanrio’s Hello Kitty is coming to your island resort, provided you buy the associated amiibo cards, of course.

The cards release on March 26, and are exclusive to Target. No price point has been shared yet, but in the images we can spot a wide variety of new furniture items that aren’t currently in the game, like character-themed beds and tables. Previously, you could only get some Sanrio posters via Harv’s island.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons will get a Super Mario-themed free update in March, Nintendo announced on Tuesday. It’s the next update coming after New Horizons’ Festivale event, which begins on Jan. 28.

Nintendo first hinted at a Super Mario-themed update in September during a surprise Nintendo direct. No details were given then, and no more were added on Tuesday morning — but Nintendo crossovers in Animal Crossing have long been a tradition in the games, so we can imagine what it’ll look like.

The Festivale celebration will take place on Feb. 15, the day before Mardi Gras. Players will have to collect colorful feathers to witness Pavé’s festive dances. Nintendo will also add the Viva Festival Reaction Set, which can be purchased at Nook’s Cranny for a limited time and includes new reactions: Feelin’ It, Let’s Go, Viva, and Confetti. Limited-time Festivale fashion items will also be available at the Able Sisters’ shop.

GTA Online publisher smacks down another cheat seller

Legal threats from Grand Theft Auto Online’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive, wiped out popular PC cheat maker Luna Cheats over the weekend, and even got them to give any money they made to charity.

Luna Cheats’ website is now a single page, blank except for a 50-word apology to the GTA Online community, and a promise to “donate our proceeds to a charity designated by Take-Two.”

New Dragonlance novel trilogy is back on after authors dismiss lawsuit

After months of litigation with rights holders Wizards of the Coast, Dragonlance creators Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman confirmed their new trilogy of Dungeons & Dragons novels is back on. About two weeks after Weis and Hickman dropped their lawsuit against Wizards, the authors’ representatives announced that the first book in a new Dragonlance series will get a publication date later in 2021 — although it’s not guaranteed that the book itself will release this year.

Last October, Weis and Hickman filed a lawsuit against Wizards. The pair claimed breach of contract, and asked for a jury trial and $10 million in damages. Court documents state that Wizards had approached them to secure an agreement for a new Dragonlance trilogy in 2018. The project had reportedly led to one completed manuscript with two more in production. Wizards allegedly told the authors it would not be approving any more drafts, which effectively left them in limbo — unable to share their work or profit from it.

Fall Guys’ mid-season patch adds a new stage and penguin murder

Developer Mediatonic is rolling out another mid-season update to Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, which will shake the game up and make things more interesting for long-time players. There will be a new level, as well as 40-plus variations for other levels, which add new obstacles or change a feature of the stage to ensure players can never autopilot their way through familiar paths.

This update, named by the community, is called “stop it with the yeets name it anything else just don’t include the word yeet please I’m begging you,” which suggests fans are no longer quite as enamored with features like Fall Guys’ random swinging hammer, Big Yeetus.

Sea of Thieves’ new mission could tease the game’s new big bad

Sea of Thieves is changing in the new year, with the game’s usual update schedule going away in favor of seasons. On Monday, the official Sea of Thieves Twitter account posted a lore teaser that sets up a new kind of mission in-game ... and hints at the possible arrival of a longtime lore enemy that could really shake the seas up.

The note is written to Larinna, the representative of the Bilge Rats, the faction which gives out limited-time quests and explains events to players. The Merchant Alliance is in “grave danger,” Chief Trader Mollie warns, with their ships going missing upon the seas. Mollie asks if “The Grand Maritime Union [has] some part to play in these catastrophes.”

Report: Diablo 2 remake in development at reorganized Blizzard

A remake of 2000’s Diablo 2 has been in development, though the team now working on it is the former Activision subsidiary Vicarious Visions, which is now part of Blizzard Entertainment, Bloomberg reported this weekend.

The intrigue in Bloomberg’s report is twofold: First, that the Diablo 2 remake is in the works, and second, that the ramshackle launch of Warcraft 3: Reforged a year ago may have played a role in corporate leadership taking the remake, called Diablo 2: Resurrected, from Blizzard’s hands.
