Rust gets ‘softcore’ servers, so new players suffer less

Rust has recently blown up in popularity after a host of popular streamers started playing the survival game. Comedy and high drama were the draw, as the game traditionally encourages backstabbing. Facepunch Studios, the game’s developer, announced that it will be making things easier for new players. The so-called “softcore mode” comes to the game along with a host of other fixes and additions.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition will dial down the butt shots

BioWare announced the release date and new details for the much-anticipated Mass Effect Legendary Edition this week. While the biggest updates in the remaster to the series are cosmetic, one specific change piqued the interest (and ire) of fans. The remaster will alter camera cuts that focus on characters’ butts.

In an interview with Metro UK, Mass Effect Legendary Edition project director Mac Walters said BioWare reconsidered how they portrayed characters like Miranda in the remaster.

Cyberpunk 2077 hotfix should reduce the risk of real-life malware attacks against PC players

CD Projekt Red released yet another hotfix for Cyberpunk 2077 on Friday morning — albeit a very tiny one.

Hotfix 1.12 is only available for PC players and solves two major issues: “fixed a buffer overrun issue” and “removed/replaced non-ASLR DLLs.” As far as patch notes go, that’s not very transparent or helpful to the average consumer. So here’s what this patch actually does.

There are two new biomes for dwarves to explore, each with its own set of deadly enemies. Azure Weald is a bioluminescent, fungal area that is both pretty and full of enemies, while the Hollow Bough is a Hoxxes VI region with carnivorous enemies and organic environments. These maps, and their unique challenges, should shake things up.

Dauntless breaks the ice with a new boss and quest content

The newest Dauntless update introduces a new beast for players to track, hunt, and kill. This big boy is called the Urska, and he heralds in a bunch of new content for hunters to explore in this free-to-play action RPG.

The main feature of update 1.5.3 is Frost Escalation. With permafrost melting, new areas in the world are opening up, and the beasts slumbering beneath the surface are stirring. Players will have to travel though Skaldeskar, a frosty location where they’ll ally with the warrior queen Linnea Silver. Skaldeskar may be melting, but it’s still cold enough to cause a disabling conditioned called frostbite. In a game where players rely on mobility and dodging, frostbite can be especially deadly as it is capable of freezing a hunter in place.

Goldeneye 007’s canceled Xbox 360 remake is now playable online

Rare’s GoldenEye 007 on the Nintendo 64 was a shooter classic, and many players still fondly remember facing off against their friends in the game’s competitive modes. VideoGamesChronicle reported on a fascinating development for those who wish they could return to the game — a ROM of a cancelled Xbox 360 remake is circulating on file sharing sites. Players can revisit the single-player campaign and multiplayer, all remastered — or they can hit a toggle to put things back to the original N64 graphics, which are charming in their blockiness.

On Jan. 29, a YouTube user named Graslu00 posted a two hour video of the remaster, which showed off the remake in extensive detail. There have been occasional glimpses of this project on the Internet since its existence was leaked in 2008, but this was the closest look players had yet. Shortly afterwards, the ROM was leaked, allowing people to boot up the game and relive a classic.
