Humanoid flower Pokémon Tsareena coming to Pokémon Unite

A new character is joining the Pokémon Unite arena: grass-type humanoid flower Tsareena.

The Pokémon Company debuted the new addition in a YouTube video published Thursday. In the 27-second clip, The Pokémon Company showed off a few of her moves, and it sure looks like she kicks a lot. The Pokémon Company called Tsareena a “powerful All-Rounder that will dance around the competition” in the YouTube video’s description.

Final Fantasy 14 will prioritize paid players during Endwalker's launch congestion

The launch of any new MMO expansion is usually pretty busy, but with Final Fantasy 14’s explosion of players earlier this year, Endwalker’s launch period is about to get messy.

Square Enix addressed player concerns about congestion with a lengthy blog post on the Final Fantasy 14 website. It includes best practices for logging in during the new Endwalker expansion’s early-access period — which starts Friday, ahead of the official launch on Dec. 7 — warning about the severity of the queue, and what players should expect.

I’ve pondered the orb and now I can’t go back

An orb is a simple but powerful object. The crystal spheres — which are typically used to predict the future — can beget awe, mystique, and even sometimes fear, depending on the kinds of omens they bring. Orbs have long been the stuff of fantasy stories, and now, the magical object has become the star of a popular new meme.

The trend is all based on an illustration by Angus McBride, who was an English historical and fantasy artist. The image shows the artist’s imagining of Saruman, the evil wizard from The Lord of the Rings. In the illustration, we see the cloaked wizard’s dark and brooding eyes gazing deeply into a glowing blue orb.

Respawn pulls the original Titanfall from stores

The original Titanfall is now discontinued, Respawn Entertainment announced in a Wednesday afternoon Tweet.

The game is no longer available on digital marketplaces and will disappear from subscription services in March of next year. (Titanfall and its DLC still appear in EA’s Origins shop, but the page errors out if you try to click on it). However, players who already own Titanfall have nothing to fear: the servers are still live, and Respawn didn’t reveal when or if they’ll eventually shut down.

Overwatch gets weird with some over-the-top balance changes designed by players

With Overwatch 2 many months or years away, players of the original Overwatch have little new to do to keep themselves busy outside of the usual cadence of holiday events. In an effort to mix things up, Blizzard Entertainment handed over the keys to players for a new set of experimental, “over-the-top” balance changes that have managed to breathe a bit of life into the game, if only for a short period.

On Tuesday, a new Experimental Card for Overwatch rolled out with balance changes conceived by a trio of streamers and content creators. Those creators (Somjuu, Violet, and Flats) remixed how every hero in Overwatch plays, sometimes dramatically (Lucio’s ult can now kill enemies and Sigma’s Experimental Barrier is just ... gone) and sometimes superficially (Orisa now wears a Christmas hat).

Battlefield 2042’s massive new update is almost all bug fixes and minor improvements

Battlefield 2042’s massive new update is almost all bug fixes and minor improvements

DICE has released another patch in hopes of improving Battlefield 2042, and this time around it’s mostly dedicated to fixing some of the game’s lingering bugs and introducing some small quality-of-life upgrades. The patch was released on Wednesday, along with a huge patch notes post that goes over all the changes DICE made to the game.

One of the biggest changes is a UI update designed to make a few important pieces of information much more clear. After the update, players who are downed will be able to see if there are players within 50 meters of them; that way, they know if someone might be able to revive them. The game will also show the downed player if their reviver pings that they’re on their way. Similarly helpful, Battlefield 2042’s HUD will now display an icon above friendly players’ heads if they need additional ammo or healing. That way, you can help them out if you have that item equipped.

Arcane’s Silco makes a surprise debut in Riot’s Teamfight Tactics

Arcane’s Silco makes a surprise debut in Riot’s Teamfight Tactics

The League of Legends series Arcane is still fresh in players’ mind after a three-part debut on Netflix, so it’s no surprise that Riot is returning to that well for its lineup of games. Teamfight Tactics, the non-canon, auto-chess spinoff that lets players build a roster of champions from League of Legends, is adding Arcane antagonist Silco to the fray.

Silco is a great character, someone who claims to be fighting for the freedom of the undercity of Zaun, but is also focused on his own petty wants and needs. he also presented a unique design challenge for Riot, because up until now, Teamfight Tactics has only pulled from the League list of Champions and their various cosmetic skins. Silco had to be built from scratch, and he’s still a work-in-progress. While we know that he’ll likely be a Mastermind class champion who thrives in the backline, Riot hasn’t revealed his specific abilities yet.

PlayStation Plus offers Godfall, Lego DC Super-Villains in December

PlayStation Plus subscribers get Godfall: Challenger Edition, Mortal Shell, and — in a program first — Lego DC Super-Villains beginning next week. Free Lego games had, to this point, been the exclusive domain of Xbox Live’s Games With Gold.

Lego DC Super-Villains, for PlayStation 4, launched in October 2018. Though Games With Gold has offered seven Lego games to subscribers over its nine years — most recently this month, with Lego Batman 2 DC Super Heroes — it’s the first time any of TT Games’ licensed Lego platformers have graced PlayStation Plus.

Capcom Arcade Stadium tops Steam’s charts — for dubious reasons

A confluence of curious circumstances has vaulted Capcom Arcade Stadium, a nominally free-to-play anthology that launched in May, to the top of Steam’s charts — rivaling the likes of Apex Legends, Grand Theft Auto 5, and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.

It isn’t because fans have renewed thirst for 32-year-old 1943: The Battle of Midway, the lone free game available with Arcade Stadium. Instead, bots are idling in the game to mine Steam trading cards, which can be sold for store credit on the Steam Community Market. At least, that’s the view from Pavel Djundik, the creator of SteamDB.
