Sony announces PlayStation 5 VR headset

Sony confirmed Tuesday that it’s working on the next-generation of its PlayStation VR platform, offering first details on the new hardware coming to PlayStation 5. The next-gen PlayStation VR system will offer “dramatic leaps in performance and interactivity” and “an even greater sense of presence,” Hideaki Nishino of Sony Interactive Entertainment said on the PlayStation Blog.

“We’re taking what we’ve learned since launching PS VR on PS4 to develop a next-gen VR system that enhances everything from resolution and field of view to tracking and input,” Nishino said. “It will connect to PS5 with a single cord to simplify setup and improve ease-of-use, while enabling a high-fidelity visual experience.”

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 delayed indefinitely

Paradox Interactive’s Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 won’t make its previously scheduled 2021 release date — and for a very good reason. The publisher announced the game’s indefinite delay on Tuesday, and pinned it on a substantial development setback: Lead developer Hardsuit Labs is no longer working on the game.

On the Bloodlines 2 website, Paradox Interactive said that while the game is still in development, the publisher is no longer sharing a release date, nor is it accepting further pre-orders for the game.

Fortnite parody ‘Chug Jug with You’ is taking over TikTok

The latest song to take over TikTok isn’t a pop hit or a fun remix. Instead millions are listening to a squeaky, prepubescent voice singing about a Fortnite item that’s no longer in the game. Chug Jug might be vaulted in the video game, but that hasn’t stopped it from delighting millions of people on social media.

TikTok tune du jour “Chug Jug with You” has its origins in two other songs: disco funk hit “American Boy” by Estelle and Kanye West, and “Let’s Play Fortnite,” a 16-second parody by YouTuber CM Skits. “Let’s Play Fortnite” is grating, with off-beat lyrics like “You can take me to Moisty Mire but not Loot Lake” and “We can be pro Fortnite gamers.” CM Skits’ video has just 90,000 views, but it caught the attention of a 13-year-old boy who goes by the name Leviathan.

Pokémon Go’s next season will focus on Legendary Therian Formes

Pokémon Go’s next three months of in-game events will feature the addition of new Legendary Pokémon to the game.

Notably, the Therian Formes of the Forces of Nature, Tornadus, Landorus, and Thundurus, will be coming to the game. Niantic did note that more Legendary Pokémon would be making their debuts as well. It’s likely that we’ll start seeing some Legendary Pokémon from the Kalos region, like Xerneas and Yvetal, soon.

Analogue says it’s making more Pockets — and going after bots and resellers

When high-end console maker Analogue opened up pre-orders for its beautiful Game Boy-inspired handheld, Pocket, the portable sold out almost instantly. The $199.99 device, which plays Neo Geo Pocket Color, Atari Lynx, and Sega Game Gear games in addition to multiple generations of Game Boy titles, was highly coveted but in short supply. People who didn’t secure a pre-order for the Analogue Pocket were, to put it lightly, bummed.

But Analogue said in an update Monday that it plans to make (and sell) more Pocket handhelds, and stressed that the all-in-one portable was never intended to be a limited-edition item. Analogue wants to make more, but pointed to supply issues caused by the “current global state of affairs”— aka the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Black Ops Cold War’s Outbreak puts Zombies on their biggest map

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s multiplayer season 2 launches on Feb. 25, bringing with it Outbreak, which is the series’ Zombies mode set on its largest map to date.

Such a large map means vehicles galore to make use of the space, and they feature prominently in the announcement trailer that Activision and Treyarch released Monday. Outbreak is an objective-based cooperative PvE mode involving teams of four.

Deadpool writers land Twisted Metal TV series, obviously

The writers of the Deadpool movie will move on to helm a TV adaption of Twisted Metal, according to Variety. Yes, the Twisted Metal vehicle combat series will be Sony Pictures TV and PlayStation Productions’ latest project.

Deadpool and Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick will adapt the series as a live-action action comedy, Variety says. The series follows a new character who’s hired to deliver a package deep into a “post-apocalyptic wasteland,” so the hero will team up with a car thief to deliver the goods. The duo will run into obstacles on their journey, including Twisted Metal’s clown-faced, ice cream truck-driving mascot, Sweet Tooth.

Rainbow Six Siege gets its first gay operator, Flores

Ubisoft has continued to update Rainbow Six Siege since the game’s launch in 2015, and one of the game’s biggest features is the new operators. The first new character of Rainbow Six’s Year 6 is already making a splash. Flores is an offensive operator with a series of four explosive drones on wheels. He’s also the game’s first gay character.

Rainbow Six Siege operators have historically hailed from a specific organization that deals with national defense or counter-terrorism. Ash trained with the Israeli Defense Forces and SWAT, Finka worked with Russia’s Spetsnaz, and so on. Flores, on the other hand, is a master thief who hails from Argentina. An in-game report from one of his teammates also reveals that he’s a devoted husband.

Watch Dogs: Legion Online expands open-world London, but only a little

Watch Dogs: Legion’s multiplayer mode, originally due in December and pushed back on a near-monthly basis since, is delayed again. Watch Dogs: Legion Online will now launch March 9, a delay of two weeks.

For impatient fans, what I played in a closed preview event one month ago didn’t exactly look like something worth the extended wait. For those looking to Watch Dogs: Legion Online as the game’s first narrative expansion, there isn’t much of that. There is a story-extending series of five cooperative missions, but nearly all of them break down to a guns-blazing shootout, with little of Watch Dogs’ blend of stealth and technological trickery.

Rainbow Six Siege has already been testing a reputation system for season 6

Rainbow Six Siege has already been testing a reputation system for season 6

Rainbow Six Siege will embark on its sixth year with four new operators and several map reworks, but the big launch is a reputation system that rewards positive gameplay behavior with in-game content, which Ubisoft Montreal has been shadow testing over the past few months.

The Reputation System already has been running in the background, according to a news release, and it’s been doling out in-game rewards to good teammates while limiting access to the ranked playlist for toxic ones. It’s also been working in other, unspecified ways to curb toxicity and encourage teamwork; Ubisoft said all this will become transparent when the tool launches at some point in the next year.
