New Pokémon Snap’s online features look slick

With an April release 30 release date, New Pokémon Snap is just around the corner — so late February’s Pokémon Presents is a perfect time to tell us a little bit more about the photography-focused Switch exclusive. Here’s the latest trailer.

New Pokémon Snap is the sequel to the Nintendo 64 game with nearly identical title, except this time around, you’ll be helping a professor out with an “ecological survey.” Studying the pocket monsters requires you to ride a rail tram of sorts, which will take you through the natural environments. And, the better your pictures, the higher your score.

The gameplay trailer showed a trainer being presented with three starter Pokémon from a variety of regions: Rowlet from Alola, Cyndaquil from Johto, and Oshawott from Unova. The game takes place in the Sinnoh region, and features trainers that do look similar to the trainers you play as in Diamond and Pearl.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake free on PlayStation Plus in March

PlayStation Plus subscribers will get access to four games in March, including Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Square Enix’s action-role-playing game will be available to download on March 2 via PS Plus, alongside Maquette, Remnant: From the Ashes, and Farpoint.

Maquette is the recursive puzzle-adventure game from developer Graceful Decay and publisher Annapurna Interactive. In Maquette, the player manipulates a small-scale model of the game world they’re living in. Objects moved or brought inside the titular maquette are represented at massive scale in the real world, and players must move objects around to traverse through a recursive environment. Maquette will be a brand-new release available through PS Plus.

Capcom will add some interesting new in-town features to Monster Hunter Rise. The developer and publisher of Monster Hunter Rise invited Polygon to a short video presentation, where it detailed changes to the food and training systems, as well as several others.

Like the new Wire Bug and rideable Palamutes — both of which you can also use to move around town — Monster Hunter Rise’s Kamura Village will change a lot from previous Monster Hunter games. The changes are most notable when you look at in-town multiplayer, the Buddy system, the Training Area, and the new Dango food system.

Final Fantasy 7 is getting a battle royale prequel

Shortly after Square Enix announced a surprise upgrade for Final Fantasy 7 Remake, called Intergrade, for PlayStation 5, the company dropped an even bigger surprise: a battle royale game set in the world of Final Fantasy 7.

Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier is coming to Android and iOS devices in 2021. The battle royale game will feature the kind of gunplay you’d expect from a multiplayer shooter, but The First Soldier ups the ante with magic spells, Final Fantasy summons, and Chocobos on the battlefield.
