Dark Souls' director 'doesn't believe' player who beat the game without taking a hit

'It's just an elaborate rumor!'

Last month, a player on Twitch streamed his no-hit run of the first Dark Souls game — but series director Hidetaka Miyazaki is chalking that playthrough up to an "elaborate rumor."

"I don't believe the player who says he completed the original Dark Souls without taking a hit," Miyazaki told Wired UK in an interview. While he conceded that it would be an "amazing" feat, he has trouble seeing its plausibility.

Lawsuit brought in 2014, before Steam enacted a refund policy

Eighteen months of legal wrangling with Australia's consumer protection authorities have ended with Valve being found in violation of the law there for not having a refund policy.

The lawsuit was brought in 2014 by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, before Valve established the refund policy now in place. An Australian federal court ruled that Valve made misleading statements to consumers in its terms and conditions, all of which pertained to the right Australian citizens have to demand a refund if they are sold a faulty or defective product.

Formula One cracks down on racing game mods

Dozens of designs ordered removed from a popular sim racing forum

More than 30 pages of mods for three racing simulations, two of them licensed Formula One video games, have been taken down on the demand of F1's rights holder, enraging some in the sim racing community.

The mods were listed in a forum thread at RaceDepartment, a racing news and community portal, and concerned the racing games Automobilista, F1 2013 and F1 2014 on PC. Many of the mods updated the liveries and decal positions for real-world cars licensed to appear in the two F1 titles.

This Amiga game was lost for two decades, and now it's out on Steam

It's been a long time coming

Shenandoah: Daughter of the Stars, a shoot-'em-up made by four Swedish teenagers, was just about finished and ready for a release on the Amiga in 1993. Then the project collapsed, and its developers split up. Now, nearly 23 years later, the game has been reborn as 1993 Space Machine, and it launched today on Steam for Mac and Windows PC.

"This is a very exciting day in my life. Finally, the game that was developed in my childhood room back in 1993 is ready, even though it took 23 years to finish it," said Krister Karlsson, the game's original designer, in a press release today.

How does Hyrule Warriors Legends play on New 3DS vs. the old 3DS?

It turns out there's a sizable difference

Hyrule Warriors Legends is now available on Nintendo 3DS — all iterations of the hardware — but, according to Digital Foundry, the game shows significant improvements on one type of the handhelds over the other. In the video above, check out a side-by-side comparison of the recent release on both the New Nintendo 3DS and the original 3DS.

Digital Foundry also compared Legends to its Wii U brother, Hyrule Warriors. Although certain parts of the game perform at the same speed on each console, the New 3DS comes out on top when it comes to handling the hack-and-slash game's battles.

Forget apps, get your whole desktop floating in space

Virtual Desktop is the first program you should buy for your Oculus Rift. I've only spent a few hours in the application, exploring its many options and features, and I'm already hooked. This should be a mandatory purchase for anyone with a retail Oculus Rift arriving today.

Virtual Desktop gives you a virtual version of your existing computer desktop in a variety of settings, and then allows you to make it larger or smaller or move it closer to your eyes or further away. You can select from a variety of environments, including a few fully 3D spaces, with more on the way. You can also launch any video file from any video player, including Netflix and YouTube, and either watch them on the standard screen or put them in a virtual movie theater.
