Beamdog attacked for inclusive characters in RPG

Baldur's Gate expansion developer Beamdog today faced a barrage of heated online criticism about Siege of Dragonspear's inclusion of a variety of characters in a fantasy world, including a powerful woman and a trans woman.

Since the expansion came out last week, it has become the latest focus for reactionary outrage about video game narratives that take on contemporary social issues or attempt to break down the exclusionary nature of many game stories.

One of World of Warcraft's biggest bad guys is turning good in the Legion expansion

A new novel pushes Illidan to the side of the angels — literally

At this point, just months out from its summer 2016 release, there's a fair bit that we know about World of Warcraft: Legion, Blizzard's sixth expansion pack for its decade-old massively multiplayer game. We know the level cap will be going up. We know there will be new lands to explore. And we know that a plot twist will bring back Illidan Stormrage, the main antagonist of 2007's Burning Crusade expansion, long thought dead at the hands of the players themselves.

But whose side will Illidan be on upon his return? Blizzard has heavily hinted that players will be working with rather than against Illidan; the game will even be getting a new demon hunter class based around the iconic character. However, Illidan is, historically, an anti-hero of sorts. He often does things for the right reasons but in the wrong ways, which led to him eventually fully embracing his role as a bad guy.

FIFA 16 added to free vault of EA Access, Origin Access games

FIFA 16 is the next title going into the vault of games offered to subscribers of EA Access and Origin Access. EA Sports' acclaimed soccer simulation will be available on both premium services beginning April 19.

The addition means last year's NBA Live 16 and Rory McIlroy PGA Tour, and barely-a-month-old UFC 2, are the only current EA Sports series not available through the Access program on Xbox One.

Worth mentioning also is the fact EA Access and Origin Access members get a 10 percent discount on their digital purchases, which extends to FIFA 16's Ultimate Team mode, including currency, card packs and other in-game purchases.

League of Legends reveals sweeping changes to one of its oldest champions

The revised Taric appears to have one of the stronger support kits in the game

Taric is a champion who has been around in League of Legends almost since the inception of the game, and he's been pretty useless in the conventional meta for almost as long. A fairly simple champion who mostly saw action in the support role, his play rate has been in the single digits for many patches.

That looks like it's about to change, as the reworked Taric comes equipped with what appears to be a very strong kit.

Sales of memorabilia support Mike Forgey's family

The family of Michael Forgey, producer of games like Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Gears of War 2, are auctioning off a variety of signed games, consoles and other merchandise in his memory. Nearly 60 items, ranging from a $2,000 life-sized Master Chief statue to signed copies of games like Batman: Arkham Knight and Forza Horizon 2, are now accepting bids, with proceeds going toward supporting his family.

Forgey passed away in March after a battle with glioblastoma, a rare form of brain cancer. Friends of the producer launched a campaign soliciting donations toward his medical expenses back in December. According to its eBay page, the auction is again hosted by Forgey's friends and peers, who rallied to contribute a variety of rare items.

about X hours ago from

A new teaser video from Valve hints that Dota 2 enthusiasts will soon have an impressive and immersive new way to watch the competitive multiplayer game, thanks to SteamVR.

In a brief clip posted to the official SteamVR website, Valve teases "VR features coming to your favorite games" and shows footage of an enhanced spectating mode. The VR view for Dota 2 shows gameplay on a virtual theater screen and moves certain elements, like the game's minimap, to a separate segment of the display to reduce UI clutter.

It looks like viewers will also have the option to select and get stats on certain players and teams; the teaser shows the viewer selecting former Evil Geniuses player Arteezy with a Vive Controller, reviewing his skills and then pulling up a pair of virtual line charts comparing the two teams.
