Playing Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE and Kirby: Planet Robobot at PAX East 2016

This June,Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE hits Wii U and Kirby Planet Robobot arrives on Nintendo 3DS. We went hands-on with both at PAX East 2016, and found two games perfect for Nintendo systems and fans.

Announced in 2013 as Genei Ibun Roku #FE, developer Atlus' Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE (pronounced "sharp FE," in case you're wondering) has always been a mashup of two popular Japanese role-playing game series: Fire Emblem and Shin Megami Tensei. It wraps those two franchises in a story that frames its heroes as Japanese pop stars, a decision that has a profound effect on the game's aesthetic.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE takes place in modern-day Tokyo, where an evil force has crossed dimensions to invade. Your characters -- a few at first and then many later -- will fight back against the Mirages with magic and J-pop style.

DriveClub VR, the PlayStation VR version of the 2014 racing game from Evolution Studios, appears to be on the way to a public release, if a new listing at the Entertainment Software Rating Board is any indication.

The rating is for a product from Sony Interactive Entertainment, the publisher of DriveClub. The game is listed for PlayStation 4; it requires the PlayStation VR headset, which is scheduled to launch in October for $399. DriveClub VR's ESRB listing says that the "racing simulation game" allows players to "engage in traditional races, time trials, and drifting challenges."

Watch an amazing, one-handed run of Space Pirate Trainer

Do a barrel roll!

It takes a lot of skill to get really good at Space Pirate Trainer for the HTC Vive. And there is an interesting physical component of that skill that makes the game stand out, even among other virtual reality games.

This amazing run — which doesn't break any records, but does show what's possible with the use of only one gun and no shields — puts those physical skills on display. You may look a bit goofy when rolling around the floor or dodging fire, but who cares? You're dodging bullets. At some point you don't play the game as much as you feel the rhythm of it, and begin to react almost because you know why.

How the developer is adapting the values that made Life is Strange a success

Dontnod Entertainment could have been a failure.

The studio, founded in 2008, has a familiar origin story: Five developers left prestigious jobs to strike out on their own. They came from companies like Ubisoft, Criterion Games and Electronic Arts, united by the desire to make their dream game. It was not as easy as they thought it would be.

Metronomicon mashes music and role-playing with fantastic results

"We're calling it a rhythm role-playing game. We wanted to capture the feeling of a proper role-playing game, but I wanted to expedite it.

"I wanted to make it something that wasn't daunting to new players."

Danny Garfield, and the rest of the team at Puuba, have a history of making, well, weird games.
