Veteran team brings tweaks to turn-based alien combat hit

Long War Studios, best known for creating the Long War mod for XCOM: Enemy Unknown and Enemy Within, has created a new mod for XCOM 2. This is in addition to the three mods the studio made available for the game at launch.

Called Toolbox, the new mod is available on Steam Workshop for free today. It allows players to configure camera rotation within missions, create random stats for new soldiers, edit damage values, tweak the game UI and turn on a modifier where injuries can affect a soldier's stats.

The original Long War mod for XCOM: Enemy Unknown made the game more challenging as well as adding units, weapons and customization options. It was popular among players of the turn-based PC game, in which humans seek to defend their planet from alien invasion.

The Gallery shows VR's adventurous, but quiet, possibilities

This is the VR Myst you've been waiting for

The Gallery — Episode 1: Call of the Starseed may have a terrible name, but the $29.99 HTC Vive game excels at providing the sort of quiet, hallucinatory moments of joy and wonder that are missing in so many of the early virtual reality games. Its world is beautiful but recognizable, which is one of the reasons it's so successful at making you feel as if you've gone someplace else.

You're introduced to the game's "blink" mechanic as a voice explains the process of walking around your play space, while also teaching you to teleport to move greater distances, while also using your hands to interact with the environment. It's a bit tricky to explain in text, so watch the below video if you're curious about how it all works or the thinking behind it.

A new way of handling copyright claims

YouTube announced that it's updating its Content ID system. Upcoming changes to how content creators are affected by copyright claims aim to "help fix that frustrating experience," according to the YouTube Creator blog.

Beginning later this year, YouTube will allow monetized videos that have been hit by third-party copyright claims to continue running ads during the dispute process. Once a resolution is reached, the revenue from those ads will go to either the original creator or opposing party. The infographic below explains how the new system will work in four steps.
