Game developer Amir Hekmati sues Iran, alleging torture during years of captivity

Complaint mentions "prolonged physical and psychological torture"

Amir Hekmati, a former U.S. Marine and game developer who was jailed in Iran for nearly four and a half years, is suing the country for false imprisonment, and personal injury stemming from torture that he allegedly underwent during his captivity.

Hekmati, 32, an American of Iranian descent, was visiting family in Iran in August 2011 when he was arrested by Iranian officials. The United Nations and the U.S. government, including the State Department and President Obama, repeatedly called for his release. He was detained until January 2016, when Iran released him and three other U.S. citizens in a prisoner exchange.

Let it Die sure doesn't feel like a free-to-play game … yet?

Let it Die sure doesn't feel like a free-to-play game … yet?

Death cancels everything, except the truth

I'm playing Let it Die, and I stop thinking of Dark Souls. I also can't help but think that I might possibly be out of my mind.

I mean, it doesn't seem unreasonable. Love or hate it, From Software's deliberately difficult action role-playing series is about as influential games can be, but you don't have to take my word for it. Since the first game's release in 2011, the creators of everything from Alienation to Necropolis to Destiny bosses to the PlayStation 4 itself have cited the franchise's influence.

Bungie is finally trying to help Destiny players find partners

Bungie is finally trying to help Destiny players find partners

Will it work better than all the LFG sites out there already?

Bungie is redoubling its efforts to bring Destiny players together, linking the game's existing Recruitment forum with its mobile companion app in a way that could actually be useful, the studio announced yesterday.

Destiny is at its best when played with other people, but many of its popular and high-level activities don't support matchmaking — and that's by design, Bungie has reiterated time and again. In the absence of in-game matchmaking features or any kind of worthwhile service provided by Bungie, a cottage industry of LFG ("looking for group") websites sprang up within weeks of Destiny's launch in September 2014.

The who, what and why of the World Esports Association

The who, what and why of the World Esports Association

New Counter-Strike esports organization looks to settle rules and regulations.

The three facts that most people who follow esports agree upon are (1) its popularity is growing, really fast, (2) there's a lot of money swilling around from sponsors and media companies, and (3) it's a chaotic, lawless mess, badly in need of sorting.

This is the backdrop for the World Esports Association (WESA) announced today by ESL, the biggest league organizer in the world, along with a panoply of top European teams, including Fnatic, Natus Vincere, EnVyUs, Virtus.Pro, Gamers2, Faze, mousesports and Ninjas in Pyjamas. More teams from around the world are likely to join in the months ahead.

Final Fantasy 10/10-2 remasters on PC are missing the dual-audio option fans want

Modders are trying to fix the technical issues Square Enix couldn't

The newly released Steam versions of Final Fantasy 10 and Final Fantasy 10-2 feature English and Japanese voice acting options, and a variety of subtitle options, but players are limited in how they can mix and match the game's text and voice — and that limitation isn't sitting well with Final Fantasy fans.

On Steam, Square Enix detailed audio and subtitle support for the Windows PC versions of Final Fantasy 10/10-2 HD Remastered, saying that "all available languages will be playable in all territories." At the game's launch, players will have to select which voice option — Japanese or English — they want to listen to, and from there they'll have a handful of subtitle and text language options.

Report: Disney Infinity packs based on Rogue One, 12-inch figures were in the works

Disney exited game development earlier this week

Disney had level packs based on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Cars 3 and other upcoming movies for its Disney Infinity games in the works, according to a report on Kotaku. This was before Disney closed developer Avalanche Software and exited game development, which the company revealed earlier this week.

Also in the works, according to Kotaku, were 12-inch figures to be used for the toys-to-life game. Disney, Star Wars and Marvel characters were all set to come to Disney Infinity in 2017, sources told Kotaku.
