Vans gets colorful, retro Nintendo line

Starting this week, fans of classic skate shoes, high-tops and Nintendo will be able to combine their passions through one gloriously colorful collection of Van shoes.

The Vans x Nintendo Classic footwear line kicks off on June 3 with variations of the Authentic, the Classic Slip-On and the Sk8-Hi, Old Skool and Sk8-Hi Slim.

The prints include a Super Mario Bros. Tie-Dye, a pink Princess Peach, a digi-camo Duck Hunt, a floral arrangement Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, an NES pattern and, my personal favorite, a show with a subtle 8-bit stripe.

Hybrid publisher splits the difference between Kickstarter and Fig, holds developers accountable

In 2009 Kickstarter spun up, eventually bringing about a new era of crowdfunding games. Then in 2015 equity investment site Fig burst onto the scene, seeking to raise millions of dollars for games through a blend of traditional crowdfunding and equity investment. In between those two dates, a small company called Gambitious quietly entered the marketplace. Now, after funding and successfully completing its first wave of titles, the publisher is ready to start making some noise.

Founded in 2012, Gambitious is the brainchild of Epic Tales producer Paul Hanraets, Mastertronic CEO Andy Payne and Devolver Digital founders Harry Miller and Mike Wilson. Their goal is simple: Seek out independent games that are likely to succeed, and help them get the money they need in order to come to market.

Skylanders Imaginators hands hero creation over to players

The next Skylanders is a game that will allow players to make their own heroes and store those digital creations in a plastic crystal. Skylanders Imaginators will be the sixth title in the multi-billion dollar franchise, but more importantly, proof that Activision still sees potential in the genre it essentially created half a decade ago.

Just last month Disney announced it was killing off Skylanders competitor Disney Infinity and shutting down the studio that created the popular toys-to-life title. Disney CEO Bob Iger said at the time that they didn’t think the franchise was stable enough to stay in.

Josh Taub, senior vice president of product management at Activision, doesn’t see it that way at all.

The ultimate amiibo compatibility guide will kickstart your Nintendo figure-hunting addiction

Find out which amiibo works with which game and how

Nintendo has nearly 100 different kinds of amiibo out there, and the company has shipped millions of the figures and cards since launching the line in 2014. But keeping track of which Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games can make use of amiibos — and, worse, the particular figures they're compatible with — can be daunting.

Thanks to this comprehensive chart by amiibo scholar Moldy Clay 64, that task has been made easier. The Twitter user recently updated his list of every Nintendo game compatible with the figures, including not only the amiibo that work with the titles, but also what they unlock in the game.

Minecraft's new rules block ad agencies, politicians from shilling stuff in-game

Minecraft's new rules block ad agencies, politicians from shilling stuff in-game

'That doesn't feel right or, more importantly fun'

Corporations, ad agencies, non-profit organizations and politicians will no longer be able to use Minecraft to promote their products or agendas, according to the game's new commercial usage guidelines. In a post on the developer's website, director of creative communications Owen Hill detailed the game's commercial usage guidelines, explaining how both players and outside companies will be affected.

"We want to empower our community to make money from their creativity, but we're not happy when the selling of an unrelated product becomes the purpose of a Minecraft mod or server," he wrote. That's why Mojang has instituted the new set of rules, found in a section called "Building Promotions with Minecraft."

Street Fighter 5's next DLC character delayed until end of June

Originally planned to make her debut much sooner

Street Fighter 5 players won't get to try out Ibuki, the game's third downloadable fighter, until the end of June. Capcom announced through the series' Twitter account that, due to unexpected issues, the DLC will arrive later next month, alongside the game's cinematic story mode.

"We wanted to clear up the confusion around the release of Ibuki in [Street Fighter 5]," the first of several tweets read. Although Capcom hadn't confirmed a release date for Ibuki, whom was revealed just yesterday, a schedule of post-launch content for Street Fighter 5 suggested that she'd be available before June.

Blizzard: Improving Overwatch's play of the game is 'a really hard problem'

Blizzard: Improving Overwatch's play of the game is 'a really hard problem'

Killstreaks are boring

In the week since Overwatch's release, the game has become renowned for the, shall we say, questionable merits upon which it determines a "play of the game." Overwatch developer Blizzard Entertainment is well aware of players' feedback on the feature, and the studio is working to improve it.

Overwatch uses an algorithm to pick a play of the game that is shown to every player after a match ends. The idea, according to Blizzard, was to capture cool moments that people may have missed because they were away from the action. But so far, the algorithm tends to prioritize killstreaks and other offensive plays over the work of support characters and team players.

Fallout 4 mods are now available on Xbox One

Out of beta and into the wasteland

Bethesda Game Studios has launched mod support for Fallout 4 on Xbox One, according to the company's Twitter. The update comes in right under the wire — Bethesda previously announced that the Xbox version of the game would receive modding sometime in May.

Mod support just finished a closed beta last week on Xbox One. Invites to try out the console version of the game's modding feature were sent just over a week ago to select recipients.

Superhot VR is coming later this year as an Oculus Rift exclusive

At least, for now it is

A virtual reality version of Superhot is heading to Oculus Rift later this year, the game's developer said in a recent blog post. After hinting at plans to re-design the game for VR earlier this year, the Superhot Team confirmed that the Rift exclusive would be available by the end of 2016.

"We're now working super close with the guys at Oculus to release Superhot VR later this year," the team said in its first developer's log. "We're really trying to capitalize on all of the new design possibilities that Virtual Reality is giving us."

Japanese fans can see it in theaters this summer

Square Enix is gearing up for Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy 15's Japanese premiere on July 9 by releasing new footage from the animated film. Japanese entertainment site Natalie uploaded two separate videos comprised of clips from Kingsglaive, featuring the first time we hear the characters' voices.

The trailer below (which is, despite the thumbnail, a different video entirely from the one above) gives a brief tease of what's to come in the computer-generated movie.
