Nintendo denies Paper Mario: Color Splash makes jokes about 'online hate campaign'

"Shufflegate" raises ire on social media

Nintendo says that a sequence of jokes in Paper Mario: Color Splash, which some have interpreted as references to GamerGate and designer Zoe Quinn, are unrelated to the online hate campaign that targeted the game developer. Dialogue from the Wii U game has been "misconstrued as a crude reference" to harassment, Nintendo said in a statement to Polygon.

Yesterday, Quinn called out two pieces of dialogue from the game's E3 2016 demo, which was livestreamed on Nintendo's Treehouse Live program. On Twitter, she wrote, "what the fuck did I ever do to you, Nintendo, that y'all had to make my suffering into a fucking joke."

Game of Thrones breaks its own viewership record before season 6 finale

HBO says it's mainly due to streaming

HBO Now may have been down for this season's biggest Game of Thrones episode, "Battle of the Bastards", but HBO is crediting streaming as one of the main reasons Game of Thrones is seeing its biggest season yet in terms of ratings.

According to recent data, more than 23 million people tuned in for "Battle of the Bastards," after all avenues for viewing were taken into consideration — streaming, playback on DVRs, repeat viewings after the episode has aired and, of course, the original episode. That's a solid increase from last year's numbers, and marks a 15 percent rise in viewership overall from last season, even with the finale still looming on the horizon.

Epic's Sweeney and Microsoft still discussing monopoly concerns, 'no conclusion in sight'

He's a fan of Xbox Play Anywhere, though

Despite Microsoft's public vows, Epic Games' Tim Sweeney says he remains concerned that Microsoft's maneuvers for its Windows 10 store are a play for creating a monopoly, and ultimately bad for games.

Earlier this year, the Epic Games co-founder wrote an opinion piece for The Guardian in which he said that Microsoft is seeking to monopolize software development and distribution on Windows 10.

Australia denies rating to MeiQ: Labyrinth of Death for not meeting 'standards of morality'

It's out stateside this fall

Upcoming Japanese dungeon-crawler MeiQ: Labyrinth of Death has been refused classification by the Australian government. In publisher Idea Factory's application on the classification board's website, the organization explains that the game "is likely to cause offense to a reasonable adult."

That's because of its depictions of sex and violence, according to the classification's rejection notice. The government cited the game as belonging to a group of other offensive, banned titles, which "depict, express or otherwise deal with matters of sex, drug misuse or addiction, crime, cruelty, violence or revolting or abhorrent phenomena in such a way that they offend against the standards of morality, decency and propriety generally accepted by reasonable adults to the extent that they should not be classified."

Dad Quest is the dad-based action game you've been waiting for

I've been a father for nearly two years, and will freely admit to feeling lost for most of that time. As any parent will attest, there's no manual for how to properly raise a child. Now that I've seen the Steam Greenlight trailer for Dad Quest, I'm forced to face a terrible truth: I've been doing it wrong this whole time.

While I've been agonizing over how much TV she should watch, I should have been chucking her at my enemies and leveling up her destructive powers. Is she eating enough vegetables? Who cares? I should be focused on which class she should specialize in, be it scholar, jock or cultist. Also, I've wasted so much time teaching moral lessons when I should have been focused on the moment when I die and she becomes the dad and how much of our money will carry over. That's right: Dad Quest supports female dads.

As seen above and below, these include two variations of Spock; if you can't recognize him by his ears, eyebrows and haircut, his Vulcan-saluting paw is a sure giveaway. An undressed bear costs $28, while the fully stocked Commander Spock is sold for $55.50.

New game from Musou developer, Omega Force

After a brief announcement trailer was shown at E3 last week, publisher Koei Tecmo has released a lengthier look at developer Omega Force's new Musou title, Berserk.

The new trailer focuses on the main character, whose name is still uncertain, and his legendary sword as he takes on a horde of demons. The trailer is pretty gory and showcases some of the hack-and-slash fighting that will occur, as well as some other gameplay styles.

Sony's twin-stick shooter MOBA, Kill Strain, coming to PS4 in July

Human-on-mutant action goes live next month

Kill Strain, the competitive, team-based twin-stick shooter from Sony's San Diego Studio, is coming to PlayStation 4 on July 19, the developer announced on the PlayStation Blog today. PlayStation Plus subscribers will get access to the game a week early on July 12.

First announced at 2014's PlayStation Experience, Kill Strain pits two teams of four players, as the Mercs, against each other and a third team of one or two mutants. The mutant team can turn Mercs into mutants to expand their numbers, and battles will end when all humans have been turned into mutants; either the human or mutant base is destroyed; or the creeping titular Strain takes over the map.
