Ratchet & Clank, free on PS4 and PS5, gets 60 fps update

Ratchet & Clank, Insomniac’s 2016 series reboot for PlayStation 4, will be patched on PlayStation 5 to run at 60 frames per second, the studio said Monday. Ratchet & Clank is currently available for everyone to download, for free, until Wednesday, March 31.

Ratchet & Clank was made free at the beginning of the month as Sony Interactive Entertainment brought back its Play at Home Initiative, to support sheltering, safety, and social distancing efforts during the global COVID-19 pandemic. It’s available to anyone with a (free) PlayStation Network account; PlayStation Plus or any other subscription is not needed.

Munchkin: Critical Role puts a D&D spin on a classic party game

A new twist on Munchkin is on the way, and this time the frantic card game is taking on Critical Role. The game will be released on April 7, and it serves as more than just another variety pack. Instead, it’s easy to pick up for people who never played the original party card game, with tons of gorgeous art and references of The Mighty Nein’s adventures.

Munchkin is a card-based party game where players have to reach level 10 by collecting loot and killing monsters. It’s so stripped down and rules-light that it’s simple to combine it with Critical Role, the popular Dungeons & Dragons actual play series. The group, led by Matt Mercer, began together in 2015. Its second campaign, starring an eclectic group of adventurers known as The Mighty Nein, serves as the source material for Munchkin: Critical Role.

The PlayStation 5 version appears to be working fine, but Xbox players are reporting the inability to even get into the game when in offline mode. Fans started tweeting and complaining to Activision and Xbox support over the weekend.

Elite Dangerous: Odyssey launches as a true alpha, will expand over several weeks

Elite Dangerous: Odyssey, the highly anticipated expansion for the multiplatform spacefaring game by Frontier Developments, enters PC alpha on Monday. Turns out, this will be a true alpha, not a promotional event. It will include a phased roll-out of new features, and require lots of testing with the help of the community. Only those who purchased a Lifetime Expansion Pass or who pre-ordered the module already will be allowed to participate at this time.

Since it launched in 2014, Elite has been purely a spaceflight and driving simulation, putting players at the controls of exotic craft and sending them on their way across a massive simulation of the Milky Way. With Odyssey, players will be able to set foot on billions of undiscovered worlds for the first time — and unleash on the AI and each other with new FPS weapons and equipment.

Holographic Charizard Pokémon card sells for more than $300K

In 2020, someone paid $375,00 for an unopened box of old Pokémon cards that turned out to be fake. In 2021, the thirst for vintage Pokémon cards continues: Now, someone’s paid $311,800 for a single, holographic Charizard card, as spotted by Nintendo Life.

The 1999 first-edition “Shadowless” Charizard, with a “PSA 10 Gem Mint” rating, sold on eBay, through PWCC Auctions, for $311,800 after a long bidding war. PWCC Auctions said that there are only 122 cards with the PSA 10 Gem Mint distinction — which means it’s basically perfect — despite 2,600 Charizard cards being submitted for a rating.

Cyberpunk 2077 patch 1.2 ‘coming soon’ with hundreds of fixes

The next major patch for Cyberpunk 2077 is coming soon, developer CD Projekt Red said Monday, and will include hundreds of bug fixes and gameplay changes to the game on Google Stadia, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One.

As previously announced by CD Projekt, Cyberpunk 2077 patch 1.2 will address the game’s unusually fast and lethal police response times, and offer some much-needed options to driving vehicles (and getting them unstuck from the environment). According to CD Projekt Red’s extensive patch notes, the update will also fix visually amusing bugs, like NPCs moving after they’ve been killed and V’s “incorrect position while riding a motorcycle.”

Rocket League Season 3 brings F1 and NASCAR to the stadium

Rocket League’s next season, Season 3 (actually the 17th season, but it’s the third since the game went free-to-play) kicks off on April 7. In May, Psyonix will bring in Formula One and NASCAR as licensing partners, with cars to match the redesigned stadium players get a week from Wednesday.

Off the bat, the Season 3 Rocket Pass will offer a new vehicle, Tyranno, a muscle car chassis that uses the Dominus hitbox (as many vehicles in Rocket League do). A full reveal of the Season 3 pass is coming next week, Psyonix said.
