U.S. users will be allowed to cash out

Overwatch getting new soccer-style game mode called Lúcioball

Lúcio’s own Rocket League

Blizzard’s new Summer Games limited time event for Overwatch is more than just an Olympics-themed collection of skins, sprays and emotes; the developer is also adding a new gameplay mode called Lúcioball that brings three-on-three soccer-like gameplay into Overwatch.

Lúcioball will be played on a new map set in Rio de Janeiro. Overwatch assistant director Aaron Keller describes the new mode as a fast-paced spin on soccer in which players will punch, bounce, boop and wall-ride as Lúcio to score goals.

Why players refuse to believe that an Articuno was found in Ohio

There are a handful of Pokémon that no player has legitimately caught yet in Pokémon Go — but that hasn’t stopped some from attempting to stake their clams as the proud owners of the elusive Mewtwo, Ditto and legendary birds.

The Pokémon Go community’s latest mystery revolves around the ice-type Articuno, with most insisting that a player’s so-called catch is a ruse. Last night, screenshots of an Articuno stationed at a gym in Ohio made the rounds on social media and Reddit, with owner Kait Covey claiming that Niantic gifted her the rare Pokémon. Without pictures of a Pokédex, however, players called foul. (Videos allegedly of Articuno in-game have since appeared from other users, but those too have been rejected by Pokémon Go collection referees.)

You can visit the top of Mount Everest for $25 (and a VR headset)

Everest VR is $25, lasts for under an hour, but is pretty amazing

I became emotional at the top of Mount Everest, which was a bit strange due to the fact that I had expended almost no effort to get there.

Everest VR isn’t a game in any way. There are no challenges and it’s impossible to fail. It’s technically possible not to finish if your fear of heights causes you to remove the HTC Vive headset, but that’s the only conceivable way you won’t reach the top.

Organizers clamp down in wake of violence in Germany

This year’s Gamescom will see increased security measures, organizers announced today, in response to a number of violent incidents throughout Germany and the rest of Europe. Organizers are banning all imitation weapons and asking attendees — including press and exhibitors — to leave bags and backpacks at home.

All imitation weapons and "weapon-like elements" on costumes are not permitted at Gamescom 2016, organizers said in an email. Organizers also urged Gamescom attendees not to wear weapons or weapon-like elements while in Cologne "in consideration for the inhabitants and visitors of the city."

Overwatch celebrates the Summer Olympics with limited time loot boxes

You can't buy these items with credits, though

Blizzard Entertainment is now selling Summer Olympics-themed loot boxes for Overwatchas seen on the British PlayStation Store. The add-on content is available from now until Aug. 22, right after the closing ceremonies of this year’s Games, held in Rio.

The loot boxes include four random, Summer Games-themed items, like skins, emotes, victory poses and icons. There are 90 in total, and the store listing notes that none of the content will be available to purchase with credit earned through playing Overwatch. That’s unlike other cosmetic goods, which players can pick up in the Hero Gallery using the in-game currency. If players receive a duplicate item, however, they’ll be able to trade it in for credits as per usual.

Pokémon Go’s latest glitch is changing player’s Pokémon after they’re caught

Catching 'em all just got weird

Pokémon Go players are reporting a bizarre bug with the game’s most recent update — one that transforms caught Pokémon into a different species altogether.

The video below, shared earlier today to the Pokémon Go subreddit, shows this strange process in action. The glitch seems to happen at random, as does the type of Pokémon that catches are changed into when it occurs. Players who have had it happen to them had said that it’s happened on numerous occasions over the past 24 hours or so, however.
