Closed beta gets started; game launches by the end of 2016

3on3 Freestyle, an oft-delayed console adaptation of the street basketball Freestyle series for PC by Korean developer Joycity, will come to PlayStation 4 by the end of the year, the developer announced today on PlayStation Blog.

It's a notable development for a genre short on new titles, particularly in the arcade sports category. Joycity said it wants the game to appeal to both those who play pickup basketball and others who are committed sports video gamers.

Get this gorgeous Last of Us poster while you can

Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us has inspired plenty of wonderful artwork, but this piece is special: a limited-edition Mondo poster that is on sale as of right now.

The artist, illustrator Kevin Tong, worked "in close collaboration" with Naughty Dog to create the poster, the studio said in a blog post. Each poster in the limited production run will be hand-numbered and signed by Tong. You can see the full poster below; it went on sale at 1 p.m. ET, and if you’re reading this, it may well be sold out already.

Naughty Dog and Tong produced the poster in honor of Outbreak Day, a special annual occasion for the Last of Us community: Sept. 26 is the day in the game’s fiction on which the Cordyceps virus outbreak reached critical mass. Sony and Naughty Dog are running a weeklong Outbreak Day sale on the PlayStation Store with "significant discounts" on The Last of Us Remastered, the incredible Left Behind story expansion, some multiplayer add-ons and a PlayStation 4 theme for Outbreak Day. In addition, the PlayStation Gear Store is offering a 20 percent discount on The Last of Us merchandise.

Shovel Knight cameos in Yooka-Laylee's characters video

There's also a snake named Trowzer. Yes, really.

Playtonic Games rolled out a parade-of-characters video for Yooka-Laylee today, introducing us to more than just Laylee and Yooka. In fact, the game's probably six months away from launch, and they're already talking cameos.

That begins with Shovel Knight, who is approaching John-Ritter-in-the-early-1980s levels of overexposure. By my count this is his sixth game cameo (including an amiibo). But ho-a-yo-a-ho-ho-ho-you only live once, I guess.
