Cyberpunk shooter Turbo Overkill finally gives players a chainsaw leg

Even if you’re feeling a bit fatigued by neon-lit cyberpunk aesthetics in your video games, you have to give newcomer Turbo Overkill credit for a key combat innovation: It has a chainsaw leg. In Trigger Happy Interactive’s new fast-paced first-person shooter, your leg can turn into a chainsaw. Pair that with Vanquish-style power-sliding, and you’ve got what looks like a fun Doom-inspired shooter on your radar.

Turbo Overkill looks like a cybernetic murder ballet in its debut gameplay trailer. The player, as a violent killing machine tasked with cleaning up the streets of Neo-paradise, can wall run, double jump, air dash, and chainsaw slide. They can also shoot many guns.

Call of Duty: Warzone’s zombies have taken over Verdansk’s Superstore

Call of Duty: Warzone’s zombies continue to rampage across Verdansk and they’ve finally made it to the map’s most popular location: Superstore.

The game’s latest update brings the zombies that have terrorized the map for a month now as far west as they’ve ever been. While previous outbreaks have been in slightly smaller or more secluded locations, like Prison, last week’s outbreak in the TV Station moved them into more populated areas. Now that the zombies have arrived at Superstore, players are likely to run into at least a few of them every game.

Survival game pioneer Dean Hall is trying to reinvent the genre (again)

Dean Hall didn’t invent survival games, but the success of his DayZ mod for Arma 2 changed the genre forever. You can draw a direct line from the release of DayZ in 2012 to smash hits like Ark: Survival Evolved, Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds, Fortnite, and Valheim.

That original zombie-themed survival game — now available as a stand-alone experience for Windows PC and consoles — still looms over him like a shadow. Hall left developer Bohemia Interactive long before that version of DayZ was ready to be released. Even today, many of his original design goals for that groundbreaking game remain on the drawing board. That’s why all eyes are on his mysterious new project, a game called Icarus.

Outriders developer apologizes for server issues, will offer in-game gift

After a rocky launch weekend for Outriders’ servers, developer People Can Fly will give players a “community appreciation package” for their patience. The studio revealed the bonus for players as part of a post to the game’s subreddit on Thursday. Everybody who has played Outriders between March 31 and April 11 will receive the in-game gift.

While People Can Fly didn’t provide an exact date for the reward package, it did reveal what it plans to deliver. Eligible players will receive a Legendary weapon, some of the endgame Titanium currency, and the “Frustration” emote. People Can Fly said the emote choice here is “fitting” but wasn’t intentionally ironic — the emote was already in development prior to the real-world frustration around the launch.

Muslim-American organization calls on Microsoft, Sony, and Valve to ban Six Days in Fallujah

The United States’ largest Muslim advocacy organization has called on Microsoft, Sony, and Valve to deplatform the forthcoming Six Days in Fallujah, a first-person shooter recreating the American military’s offensive in the Iraqi city almost 17 years ago.

In a statement published Wednesday, the Council on American-Islamic Relations called Six Days in Fallujah an “Arab murder simulator” that “glorifies violence that took the lives of over 800 Iraqi civilians, justifies the illegal invasion of Iraq, and reinforces Islamophobic narratives.”
