Pokémon Sun and Moon’s second global mission is yet another failure

Pokémon Sun and Moon’s second global mission wrapped late on Jan. 9, and it turns out that players again missed the mark. Players did not meet the goal of scanning and capturing one million Pokémon in total, according to the Global Link website.

The online competition required players to use the “Island Scan” feature to locate and then battle Pokémon; afterward, they had to make sure to register their progress with the online Global Sync function. Had they been successful, players would have received 2,017 festival coins, the currency used in the online Festival Plaza that hosts these events. Instead, the consolation prize is a much more paltry 217 festival coins.

Scalebound trailers disappear from YouTube following cancellation

All trailers for Scalebound, the recently canceled, PlatinumGames-developed Xbox One and Windows 10 exclusive, have been made private on the official Xbox YouTube account. That leaves virtually no trace of the co-op action game through any of Microsoft Studios’ channels.

Revealed by director Hideki Kamiya on stage at Microsoft’s E3 2014 press conference, Scalebound began life as a single-player jaunt through a fantasy world of dragons and other monsters. Its debut trailer is still viewable below, courtesy of Polygon, showing PlatinumGames’ original vision for the title.

Japanese NES Classic Edition stuffed in a Game Boy is the system’s coolest hack yet

Modders have been messing around with the Japanese version of the NES Classic Edition — the Famicom Mini — as much as they have with the North American one. One group, Kei Studio, performed what may be the coolest hack yet: installing the guts of Nintendo’s best-selling nostalgic hardware inside of a Game Boy, making the Famicom Mini even tinier.

The 25-minute video above breaks down how the Game Boy-style modification works, step by step. It’s in Japanese with English subtitles, so stateside fans hoping to recreate this for themselves may find this especially useful. For everyone else without Kei Studio’s level of crafting skills, it’s still quite something to see.

New Overwatch voice lines have fans convinced that these heroes are now a couple

Reddit users have datamined new voice lines from a recent update to Overwatch’s public test realm, where developer Blizzard Entertainment releases patches for PC players to try out before they make it into the full game. Among characters making their New Year’s resolutions and Reinhardt losing his cool on the blazing Oasis map is one heartfelt conversation that many fans are hearing as confirmation of one of their most controversial pairings.

In a thread on the Overwatch subreddit, user akhanubis posted three voice lines between cyborg ninja Genji, his brother Hanzo and the Swiss physician Mercy. In the first, Genji asks Hanzo if he has any chocolates.

Hyper Light Drifter, Inside and Virginia among nominees for 2017 IGF Awards

The Independent Games Festival (IGF) has announced the full slate of nominees for this year’s IGF Awards. A panel of judges reviewed more than 650 submissions, down from 750 the year before, to select 60 finalists across seven categories. The awards show will be broadcast live from the Game Developers Conference (GDC) on March 1 and be hosted by developer Nina Freeman.

This year’s finalists included the avant garde thriller Virginia and the action role-playing game Hyper Light Drifter. Playdead’s Inside also featured prominently, as it did in the recently unveiled 2016 Game Developers Choice Awards (GDCA) where it leads the field with six nominations.

Even Nier: Automata's creator is fascinated by that fake butthole

The tail end of 2016 saw one of gaming’s weirdest, shortest lived “scandals,” concerning whether or not the lead character of Nier: Automata, a female-presenting android named 2B, had a graphically detailed rear end. Yoko Taro, the game’s director, has finally weighed in, but he hasn’t much cleared up matters. Instead, he stoked the flames by enlisting followers to help him compile all of the “rude drawings” created following the incident.

2Bのお尻騒動でケシカラン感じの絵とか沢山アップされてるけど集めて回るの面倒だから zip にして毎週届けて欲しい。
