Watch Dogs 2 now has a free 3-hour trial

Ubisoft is giving PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners a chance to try out Watch Dogs 2 for free as part of a limited-time trial. Players can explore the game’s single-player and multiplayer for up to three hours, according to a post on the Ubisoft blog.

Watch Dogs 2’s three-hour trial includes “full access to all the game’s features, including its seamless co-op and multiplayer,” Ubisoft says. “You can dive into missions, get to know Marcus Holloway and DedSec, explore the Bay Area freely, infiltrate restricted areas with hacked equipment, wreak havoc with a friend in co-op, and get up to whatever open-world shenanigans your heart desires.”

Valve still working on single-player games — and those Half-Life and Portal movies

Gabe Newell took part in a Reddit “ask me anything” event today, during which the knife enthusiast and Valve co-founder dropped some interesting tidbits on the community, including the fact that the developer is still working on “fully-fledged single player games” and a movie based in the Half-Life and Portal universe.

Newell also said Valve is open to revisiting the shared Half-Life/Portal universe, but with a new intellectual property.

Here’s a glimpse of the speedy new Xbox One dashboard

Even with the improvements Microsoft has made to the Xbox One dashboard since the console launched in November 2013, you couldn’t call it speedy. Plus, plenty of usability issues remain — not that the PlayStation 4 is immune from these criticisms, mind you. Microsoft’s next revision to the interface is coming in April, alongside the Windows 10 Creators Update, and the company showed off the most promising change yesterday.

Mike Ybarra, head of platform engineering for Xbox, livestreamed some of Telltale’s The Wolf Among Us to show off the features. He ran the stream on the Beam platform, which Microsoft is integrating directly into Windows 10 and Xbox One this spring. In an Xbox Wire post last week, he explained that Microsoft is reworking the dashboard with a focus on speed.

The biggest additions to Guilty Gear Xrd are two new characters: Answer and Baiken.

Super Mario Odyssey in Grand Theft Auto is unholy, amazing

Super Mario Odyssey takes the lovable Italian plumber on an incredible journey across a wild variety of landscapes and environments, including the urban playground of New Donk City. Now we have a better idea of what a life-size Mario would look like in the Big Apple — and it’s as hilarious and disturbing as you’d expect.

YouTuber CrowbCat transported Mario to Liberty City with the help of Grand Theft Auto 4 and some mods for the game’s Windows PC version. The result is more off-putting than Nintendo’s reveal trailer for Super Mario Odyssey, where Mario cavorts around New Donk City with humans who are twice his height. Let’s count the reasons why.

ZeniMax grills Zuckerberg on how quickly Facebook snatched up Oculus

Facebook’s attorneys had just one weekend to ensure the company wasn’t stepping into a legal quagmire before buying Oculus for $2 billion, Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg testified in a Dallas courtroom today, according to reporters tweeting from the trial.

“Your plan was to begin legal diligence on Friday, and sign the deal on Monday,” an attorney said, while questioning Zuckerberg under oath today, as reported by the New York Times’ Mike Isaac on Twitter.

Injustice 2’s newest trailer pits Robin v. Batman

Bane, Poison Ivy, Wonder Woman, Supergirl and Darkseid (as the pre-order come-on) all cameo in the latest story trailer for Injustice 2, the DC Universe fighting game coming from NetherRealm Studios in May.

The story picks up the pieces of 2013's Injustice: Gods Among Us, in which Superman and Batman warred (doesn't that sound familiar) over who gets to be Earth’s shot-caller. Turns out some folks still have a lot of affection for Supes, including Robin (Damian Wayne), who dishes out an Oedipal ass-beating on his father.

Gabe Newell is doing an AMA today so you can ask him about Half-Life 3

Valve boss Gabe Newell is doing an AMA this evening where you can ask where the hell Half-Life 3 is, what happened to Half-Life 3, is Half-Life 3 still in development, and when is Half-Life 3 launching.

Newell may not answer that — Valve has clammed up about Half-Life 3 for nearly a decade. Regardless, even though Newell is (and others at Valve are) famous for answering random crap sent to his email, doing an AMA is significant for Valve. It may portend some kind of announcement, but no guarantees.
