Fire Emblem Heroes’ April update adds a huge quality-of-life change

Fire Emblem Heroes is getting a series of big updates next month, but there’s a clear stand-out victor in the lineup. The mobile game’s Japanese Twitter account teased that the game’s stamina cap will go way up in April, increasing from 50 to 99.

That’s a huge win for anyone who’s spent more time waiting for the stamina gauge to fill back up than actually playing Fire Emblem Heroes. Players need stamina in order to complete story missions and training quests, with higher-leveled maps costing way more energy. Refilling that gauge typically means one of two things: waiting around a long, long time for it to refuel on its own, or using a limited-supply item that refills it automatically.

Xbox One exec on rocky launch: 'You have to earn fans'

In the run-up to the Xbox One's 2013 launch, Yusuf Mehdi, then the chief marketing officer for Xbox, summoned tremendous gamer outrage when he suggested to advertising colleagues that the Kinect sensor could analyze user behavior to help them place ads. In a post published on LinkedIn on Saturday, Mehdi spoke of the lessons he and Microsoft's Xbox division learned in that beleaguered launch year, and the realization that companies might stock showcase events with cheering fans, but they have to earn them in real life.

Mehdi, now the vice president over Microsoft's Windows and Devices group, is giving advice to executives of similar rank at other companies. Still, it reveals how the gamer revolt against the Xbox One didn't simply change a product offering, it altered how Xbox marketers would approach them in the years to come. In video gaming, where any big name's messaging is viewed as monolithic and unaccountable, this is a meaningful deference, however Mehdi is describing it.

PS4 Pro will finally support 4K video files in Media Player app

Four and a half months after the debut of the PlayStation 4 Pro, the 4K-capable console will finally gain support for playback of 4K video files.

Sony is updating the PS4’s built-in Media Player app today with this feature, the company announced in a PlayStation Blog post. The update will allow owners of a PS4 Pro and a 4K television to play 4K-resolution MP4 files — not MKV or other formats — in the app, whether the videos are saved on a USB stick or streamed from a home server. (Unlike on the PlayStation 3, it’s not possible to copy files directly to the PS4’s internal hard drive.)
