Mr. Shifty is Hotline Miami with superpowers

We had a lot of fun with Mr. Shifty, the newly released action game from tinyBuild and Team Shifty. It’s like Hotline Miami with less gore and a whole lot more teleporting, punching and trident stabbings.

Comparisons to Hotline Miami are inevitable. Both titles give you a top-down view of your protagonist and task you with surviving increasingly complex combat scenarios where death comes quickly and often. They also each give you the benefit of instantly restarting the bite-sized encounters. They even share moments of quiet reflection as you backtrack through a level to admire the carnage you’ve caused.

Nintendo Direct’s new host has already won over fans

Yesterday’s Nintendo Direct presentation saw a new person at the helm: Yoshiaki Koizumi, the company’s deputy general manager of the Entertainment Planning and Development Division. A combination of boyish good looks, charming personality and pleasant screen presence won Koizumi positive reviews from Nintendo fans still reeling from the loss of Nintendo Direct’s most familiar face, Satoru Iwata.

Koizumi presided over the half-hour stream with confidence. With a new host came a new setup for what can occasionally become rambling Nintendo Direct presentations. Under Koizumi, we were treated to Nintendo Direct “headlines,” giving us a preview of the news we could expect on the docket for the show’s duration.

Bandai Namco’s teasing a new project with this fresh as hell trailer

Bandai Namco has set a timer on its next game reveal for one week from today. Armed with just a hashtag and that countdown clock, the publisher uploaded an animated teaser to its YouTube channel — and although first impressions can be deceiving, we’re really feeling this one.

The teaser asks viewers to “prepare to dine,” which is the hashtag that Bandai Namco is promoting this with. From the video’s onset, it sure looks like this crew of gorgeously rendered, slightly demonic guys and girls are hungry for something. That something is almost definitely blood.

Nintendo Switch eShop now has one of the best party games of all time

This week’s list of new Nintendo eShop games runs short, with the Nintendo Switch seeing just three titles and a demo. The good news is that one of those new games just so happens to be The Jackbox Party Pack 3, the latest entry in what has quickly become an all-time classic series.

Jackbox Games’ digital board game collections are required at all Team Polygon functions. If you haven’t had the pleasure of playing them yourself — or partying with us — here’s the rundown: Each set includes a handful of some of the funniest, weirdest, wittiest party games we’ve ever played. Requiring just a console and a smartphone, it’s easy for a ton of people to get in on Jackbox without explaining complicated controls or buying extra controllers.

Pokémon Go Easter event kicks off with a big Egg hunt

An event beginning in Pokémon Go today gets festive with a big focus on Pokémon Eggs. From 1 p.m. PT today until 1 p.m. on April 20, players are encouraged to get out on the Pokémon Egg hunt.

An increased variety of Pokémon will be found in two-kilometer Eggs during the event. Those are the most common Eggs to find and, as such, typically hold some less than impressive Pokémon. Not so for the next seven days, so trainers should get hunting.

The Nintendo Switch has a big summer of games

Nintendo spun through plenty of games by first- and third-party publishers during its Nintendo Direct this evening, but the message was clear: There are a lot of games coming to the Switch in the next few months.

The rapid-fire delivery included release dates for big titles that have already been demoed widely, like Arms, Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Chapter and Splatoon 2, but also titles Nintendo hasn’t said much about, like multiplayer title Project Mekuru.

Nintendo Switch Joy-Con gets new color, battery pack this summer

A new color of Joy-Con controller is heading to stores in June, right alongside an accessory to extend its battery life. Nintendo will start selling the Joy-Con in neon yellow, which players can grab a pair of starting on June 16.

That same day, Nintendo Switch owners can grab a battery pack. Sold in a set of two, one for each Joy-Con controller, the accessory is meant to give the Joy-Con an extra boost of power. The battery pack runs on double-A batteries; Nintendo didn’t say how much extra battery life users can expect when using the accessory.
