Fire Emblem Heroes finally adds the series’ biggest star

Fire Emblem fans established their undying love for Ike, the star of Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, in a very public way before Fire Emblem Heroes launched in February. More than three months later, those same fans will finally be able to collect Ike in the character-based mobile game.

Ike is the marquee hero of tomorrow’s new summoning event, which gives players their first chance to collect several Path of Radiance stars. They’ll also feature in a series of battle maps, so Heroes is really giving fans as much Ike exposure as possible.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite arrives in September

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite launches Sept. 19 on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One, Capcom announced today. Alongside the game’s release date comes its first story trailer, above, which marks the first time that the two universes will truly collide outside of the franchise’s standard battle arena.

This game sees heroes from both sides uniting to take on a threat called Ultron Sigma, itself a villain made up of “the most menacing mechanoids from the Marvel and Capcom universes.”

In Splatoon 2, best friends have been torn apart

We haven’t seen much of the Squid Sisters since Nintendo revealed Splatoon 2, despite the cephalopod pop stars being among the most prominent figures in the first game. It sounds like there’s a heartbreaking reason for this, based on a big story update to the series’ site.

The Splatoon site now includes a place for some plot details specifically about the Squid Sisters, and what we have first is a prologue.

Go spelunking with rainbow lights in the mysterious Scanner Sombre

The next project from Introversion Software, the London-based studio behind games such as Prison Architect and Darwinia, puts you in a network of subterranean caves with just one tool to navigate the pitch-black darkness: a scanner that can temporarily light up the environment.

Scanner Sombre is the title of the game, which Introversion will spring on everyone this Wednesday, April 26. The title refers to a literal device in your hands, a lidar scanner. The device works by sending out pulses of laser light that get bounced back toward the user — it measures the reflected light to determine the distance between the scanner and the reflecting surfaces, which allows it to map out the environment.

Animal Crossing speedrunner completes entire game in less than one day

Animal Crossing is one of those games that can be a total, hundred-plus hour time sink. That’s what makes this record-setting speedrun so impressive: It took one streamer just under a full day of playing to reach 100 percent completion.

Completing Animal Crossing is defined by collecting every item; finding all fish, fossils, bugs and gyroids; upgrading your entire house and Tom Nook’s store; donating every possible item to the museum; collecting all villager statues; and building the town’s extra bridge. For Twitch streamer Coldeggman, doing all of this took a breezy 22 hours, 49 minutes.

Unlocking everything from an Overwatch event could take hundreds of hours

There are just eight days left in Overwatch’s current event, “Uprising,” but anyone who’s still hoping to get 100 percent of the event’s new skins and items shouldn’t get their hopes up. It could take more than 1,500 hours to unlock everything, according to some disheartening data gathered by players.

Reddit user mynameismunka did the math on how many loot boxes players would have to theoretically open to collect every possible item. Between the Uprising event items and the standard loot box items, players might need to open anywhere from 2,000 to 5,000 different loot boxes. When excluding icons, which players can’t purchase with credits, that average drops to 1,465 loot boxes.

Bayonetta ‘English lessons’ set off sequel hopes

PlatinumGames has given Bayonetta another job: English teacher. But a blog post in which the well-coiffed action game star leads some lessons in English-language conversation has caused a stir with fans who are hoping for Bayonetta 3.

As part of the blog post, PlatinumGames uploaded a handful of short clips from Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 to its YouTube channel. These seemed suspicious out of context. To channel subscribers who can’t read Japanese or don’t look at the developer’s website on a regular basis, the sudden onslaught of videos seemed like a sign ... especially since each of the clips includes Bayonetta speaking the (English-language) lines three times.

Frontier Developments' amusement park sim Planet Coaster and its space combat hit Elite: Dangerous will both get retail releases later this year.

Frontier didn't give a specific date in its announcement. The PlayStation 4 version of the game has not launched in the PlayStation Store. In December, Frontier said the game would be launching on PS4, with PlayStation 4 Pro support, sometime between April and the end of June of this year.
