Wargaming apologizes for threatening YouTuber with copyright claim

World of Tanks publisher Wargaming finds itself on the retreat again today. It was forced to apologize for threatening a punitive copyright claim against one of its own community members. The YouTuber in question, who goes by the name SirFoch, has nonetheless been ejected from that community program.

This all started back on May 18 when SirFoch posted an unusually short video. In it, he took issue with Wargaming’s latest premium tank, the American Chrysler K, which is being sold as a promotion for this year’s World of Tanks tournament in Moscow.

Battlefield 1 getting female soldier class in next expansion

Battlefield 1 developer EA DICE will add a female soldier to the game’s multiplayer component in its upcoming expansion, the studio announced yesterday.

In the Name of the Tsar, which will be the second expansion for Battlefield 1, is set to be released this summer. It will focus on the Russian Army and, like March’s They Shall Not Pass add-on, it will bring a new class into the multiplayer shooter: the Russian Scout.

First look at rumored Mario and Rabbids crossover RPG art leaks

The first image for Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, a strange Nintendo Switch game that’s been the subject of repeated rumors throughout the year, has appeared online. Comicbook’s gaming vertical WWG posted a piece of full key art, following a cropped image from the game surfacing on Discord.

WWG reportedly received the full-size image, below, from sources connected to developer Ubisoft. The company is said to be working on the title in collaboration with Nintendo.

Pokémon Go anti-cheat update hides rare finds from view

Several Pokémon Go players are reporting that they can no longer find anything but the most common monsters in their games. The reason? Niantic has seemingly flagged accounts that use unofficial trackers and other software, resulting in widespread “shadowbans.”

That’s the term that several Pokémon Go communities are using for the action Niantic appears to have taken to curb cheaters and illicit behavior in the mobile game. A player doesn’t know that they’ve been flagged by the developer, as they’re still able to play the game and find Geodude, Pidgey, Ekans and other common Pokémon. But more uncommon finds no longer show up on the in-game tracker, according to players who admit to using bots or third-party tools.

Jinx is trying to replace your entire wardrobe with Overwatch swag

If your Overwatch fandom doesn’t stop after you’ve played for hours, posted your highlights to Reddit, hearted every Mei fan art on Tumblr and discussed Reyes’ mysterious backstory with your friends, then you can also dress the part. Jinx is going hard into Overwatch this year, with lots of clothing options that go beyond just t-shirts.

For the Overwatch one-year anniversary, the gaming clothing brand is launching a couple of sweet pieces of swag today: a Reaper fleece sweatshirt — complete with a massive, iconic skeleton face — and an Overwatch scarf with bold colorblocking.

Grand Theft Auto 5 sales top 80 million

Grand Theft Auto 5 has moved 80 million copies since its 2013 launch, Take-Two Interactive told investors today after yesterday's announcement that Red Dead Redemption 2 was being delayed into 2018.

In the call, Take-Two also obliquely confirmed that Red Dead Redemption 2 would not release sooner than April 2018. The publisher's fiscal year ends March 31, and the 2018 fiscal year that began April 1 of this year has just two confirmed titles so far: NBA 2K18 and WWE 2K18, both licensed sports titles expected every year. The only other announced products are two DLC packs for Mafia 3 coming later this month and in the summer.

Overwatch’s new emotes feature a perfect anime reference

Overwatch’s new emotes feature a perfect anime reference

Overwatch’s new anniversary event skins and emotes are among the best the game’s ever received, so it’s hard to choose a favorite. As a lifelong anime fan, I’m going to have to go with Mei’s dance — which, as some observant Twitter and Reddit users picked up on, is an obvious reference to a recent anime classic.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya premiered in 2006 and quickly became a hit for its surreal blend of comedy, romance and supernatural hijinks. The show was beloved for something else, too: Its catchy-as-hell opening and closing themes, the latter of which featured its very own dance.

Killers and Thieves is a stealth adventure in organized crime

Killers and Thieves is a stealth-strategy game in which a coven of burglars enrich themselves on booty from a medieval city.

I played much of the Windows PC game over the past week, and found it to be a mostly enjoyable mix of action and tactics. You can watch my gameplay video above. The game was created as a solo project by Alex Thomas, co-creator of The Banner Saga series of viking-inspired RPGs and is being published by Stoic, the company he co-founded.
