Pokémon Go Fest tickets going for more than 10 times the asking price online

Tickets for the first live, sponsored Pokémon Go event went up for purchase yesterday, selling out in about 15 minutes. It’s no surprise that there are plenty available from third-party sellers, though, and they’re going for as much as 10 times the asking price.

Niantic set the price at $20 per ticket for Pokémon Go Fest, which takes place in Chicago’s Grant Park on July 22. The all-day event offers special challenges and rewards for participants, an exclusive in-game medal and chances to meet fellow team members. These incentives — as well as others available to Sprint and Boost Mobile subscribers, like an extra hour of playtime — helped move tickets quickly once they went live at 10 a.m. PT yesterday.

Hitman’s prologue is now free to play

The opening two missions of IO Interactive’s Hitman, collectively called “ICA Facility,” will be available to download for free starting today. All episodes of the game’s first season will go on sale as well.

IO Interactive is offering the price drop as its “first hello as an independent studio,” according to CEO Hakan Abrak. IO’s former parent company Square Enix dropped ties with the studio last month, resulting in cuts to staff. Last week, IO announced that the studio would retain the Hitman IP and release new games independently.

Project Rap Rabbit Kickstarter misses campaign goal

The future of Project Rap Rabbit, a narrative-based rhythm game from the creators of PaRappa the Rapper and Gitaroo Man, has been thrown into question as its crowdfunding campaign ended unsuccessfully yesterday. The project had a nearly $1.1 million ask, but backers only put up $204,00 within the deadline.

“Your excitement for Project Rap Rabbit has been wonderful to behold, but today we must sadly accept that our crowd-funding journey must end here,” wrote the development team, headed up by Masaya Matsuura (PaRappa) and Keiichi Yano (Gitaroo Man). “We knew that sourcing funds for a high-quality rhythm-action game would be tough, and though we knew that Project Rap Rabbit would be an incredible game, unfortunately we weren't able to do enough to prove that to the wider world.”

Nintendo Switch system update helps you find your Joy-Con in the best way possible

Nintendo Switch’s biggest system update yet adds plenty of cool, useful things — but a feature to help players locate their misplaced controllers may be the coolest and most useful.

Version 3.00 adds a feature that uses Switch controllers’ vibration functionality to make them easier to track down. In the console’s controller menu, the new “Find Controller” section shows all live, paired controllers associated with it. Selecting them causes them to vibrate.

A fireside chat with the creator of Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds

It was just a little over a year ago this month that I got an email from a PR firm representing Brendan “Playerunknown” Greene. It said that the mod maker, already famous in some circles for his work in Arma 3 and as a consultant on Daybreak’s H1Z1, had partnered with a global developer to make a new, standalone game.

I took the interview, of course, and I spoke with Greene and a representative from the developer, Bluehole. As I recall, I pushed on them pretty hard: Who did they think they were claiming that they could build something like that in little more than a year, and furthermore what use did the marketplace have for another early access survival shooter? I kept an eye on things, but in my mind I didn’t expect much to come of Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds.
