F1 2021’s Deluxe Edition puts all-time greats in the career roster

F1 2021 will launch a premium Digital Deluxe edition that lets players choose from seven all-time greats as their racing team’s second driver in the My Team, single-player career mode. But because it isn’t a pay-to-win scheme, it means players still have to work to acquire the drivers after paying the $74.99 for the game.

Players must still build up a racing team capable of paying the drivers, or meeting their requirements for prestige and winning chances. If My Team’s second year is balanced like it’s first, you probably won’t be able to “afford” these drivers until the latter stages of your first season, at the earliest.

Leaked Destiny 2 cutscene makes a villain out of a famous Guardian

Destiny 2’s Season of the Splicer has already had some highs and lows, with a new Transmog system that players despise and a beautiful new social space to explore. Like Season of the Chosen, Splicer is upping Destiny 2’s storytelling game with intriguing character developments and stylish cutscenes.

One unreleased cutscene coming later this season offers some new perspective on the legacy of a famous Guardian, giving their heroics more of a villainous twist when seen from the Fallen perspective. Thanks to Destiny 2’s dedicated data-mining community, this cutscene is already out in the YouTube wilds, and it’s one of the series best movies yet.

EA Sports PGA Tour is coming next spring

EA Sports PGA Tour will launch in spring 2022, Electronic Arts said on Monday, confirming assumptions that EA Sports’ return to a professional golf sim would happen sometime around the next Masters Tournament.

EA gave the launch window in a news release timed with the beginning of this week’s 2021 PGA Championship, which is being held at Kiawah Island Golf Resort in South Carolina. The publisher still hasn’t named platforms for EA Sports PGA Tour, but it has called it a “next-gen golf video game.”

Gloomhaven sequel Frosthaven will change to address cultural bias

Gloomhaven is more than just one of the world’s most popular modern board games. The role-playing game in a box is now a successful franchise, with two mass-market hits and a record-breaking crowdfunding project currently in development. Now creator Isaac Childres is opening up about his creative process, specifically about how the game and its narrative will change going forward to address issues of cultural bias in its fiction.

Childres made the announcement Friday on the Frosthaven Kickstarter page, in a post that almost immediately became a flashpoint in the ongoing culture war regarding topics such as critical race theory and our shared history of colonialism.

Mass Effect remaster gives Tali a new face

BioWare clearly put some love into the Mass Effect Legendary edition, with a host of small changes included for the biggest of Mass Effect fans. Players discovered one such change over the weekend, with a major, but easily missable, update to Tali’Zorah’s infamous maskless picture. The old stock image is gone, replaced with a visible rendering of Tali’s visible face, breathing in the non-toxic air of her homeworld, Rannoch.

Players who romance fellow Normandy crewmate Tali’Zorah nar Rayya (known as vas Normandy, due to her affiliation with Shepard’s ship) in both Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 got a special treat in 2012: a picture of Tali without her mask on, set on their bedside table. Tali is a Quarian, an alien race that lives their entire lives on ships, leading to a compromised immune system that forces them to wear masks at all times.

Mario Golf: Super Rush’s speed mode looks like golfing with Mario Kart

Mario Golf: Super Rush’s centerpiece feature looks to be Speed Golf, a blend of real-world speed golf gimmick events with Mario Kart inspired power-ups. The mode gets a 90-second closeup out of a five-minute overview trailer Nintendo published Monday morning.

In Speed Golf, all players tee off at once, and are racing to finish the hole the fastest. Obviously, this places pressure on players — go ahead and whack the ball and get running, or carefully study your shot so you hit fewer altogether? PGA Tour 2K21 introduced something like this in March with its Divot Derby multiplayer game.

Bungie turned an old Destiny 2 raid arena into a Fallen (baby) sanctuary

Destiny 2’s new Season of the Splicer sees Guardians team up with a branch of Fallen, one of Destiny players’ longtime adversaries. This branch of friendly Fallen take refuge in the Last City: Eliksni Quarter area for both protection and convenience. Players can find Fallen all over the Tower and HELM area, mingling with humanity. But the new Fallen House of Light have claimed one familiar spot in the Last City to be their home: the final boss arena from the Scourge of the Past raid.

Bungie added Scourge of the Past to Destiny 2 back in 2018, just a few months after Forsaken and the Last Wish raid. It was a unique raid experience, as it saw players battle through the bowels of the Last City to take on a rogue Fallen house. At the end, players emerged in a large arena to fight what essentially amounts to a Metal Gear bipedal mech called Insurrection Prime.
