Nintendo Network adds two-factor authentication

The feature is available in the Nintendo Network portal after logging in; the user then should go to the “sign-in and security settings” tab. At the bottom of that column is an option to enable two-step verification.

The two-factor authentication runs through Google Authenticator, which requires a mobile device (iOS or Android). The result is that every new login to Nintendo Network under this ID needs to pass Google Authenticator in addition to the normal login controls.

Destiny 2 swaps Trials map when glitch is discovered

Due to a bug where players can escape the environment on Altar of Flame, we’ve changed this week’s Trials to Countdown on Eternity.

Originally, Altar of Flame was to have been the trial, but players on that map discovered how to glitch outside of it and shoot through its walls at those still inside. Countdown on Eternity is the new map while Altar of Flame is repaired.

Discord’s iPhone app suffers major crashes, glitches with iOS 11 update

If you’re using Discord’s iPhone app and have updated to iOS 11, you might have noticed a few problems.

Users have reported an array of issues they’ve had with the app since updating, including the inability to post pictures or switch tabs without the app crashing. The most common issue iPhone users have noticed is the lack of speaker option for voice chat. In the app’s previous version, which was being used with iOS 10.3.3., users were able to do all of the above without issue.

Nintendo will release a new update for its mobile runner, Super Mario Run, later this month that adds a new playable character, a new world and a new mode to the Android and iOS game.

Super Mario Run’s Sept. 29 update will add Daisy to the roster of runners, making her the seventh playable character (not counting Yoshi color variations). Nintendo is also adding a new world called World Star. That new world will feature nine new levels and will unlock after completing worlds one through six. World Star will feature new enemies and gameplay mechanics.

Gal Metal turns Switch Joy-Cons into drumsticks, for better and worse

Gal Metal, a heavy metal rhythm game heading to Nintendo Switch, has all the makings of the console’s first success in the genre. It’s got a fantastic premise — an all-female teen heavy metal band — coupled with a lovely art style. But going hands on with Gal Metal during Tokyo Game Show left me feeling like its promise had been squandered on some outdated motion control mechanics.

Produced by Tak Fujii of former Konami fame (and E3 infamy), Gal Metal comes off at first as more of a visual novel than a traditional rhythm game. The story unfolds through a series of manga-style panels without any narration, meaning there’s plenty of reading and a strange lack of music introducing the game.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole mocks Kanye West’s game, late mother in new trailer

South Park and Kanye West have a long history, but the latest trailer for South Park: The Fractured But Whole takes things to a new level: mocking West’s late mother, Donda West

The trailer recalls an episode from the show’s 13th season in 2009. In the episode, “Fishsticks,” West is painted as a gay fish who heads off to sea to live the life he’s always wanted. In the new trailer for The Fractured But Whole, West returns in his fish form and unites with Seaman in an attempt to get his mother into heaven.

I got married in Tokyo Game Show’s real-life romance sim

I didn’t expect to get married during Tokyo Game Show.

To clarify: I did not get legally married on the showfloor. But in its spacious dating game-themed area, I spent a solid hour getting romanced by beautiful men whose jobs it was to pamper me. A trio of booths that simulated popular romance titles (from mega-publisher Voltage) gave me the chance to find love — or at least some hilarious photo shoot opportunities.

PUBG creators are unhappy with Fortnite: Battle Royale, considering

Earlier this week, Epic Games announced the PUBG-inspired, battle royale variant of Fortnite, its long-in-development sandbox survival game, would be released for free on consoles and PC next week. This development isn’t sitting well with the team at Bluehole, the developers of Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds, who use Epic’s Unreal Engine to power the early access megahit. A press release issued by Bluehole this morning suggests the team is contemplating “further action.”

“We’ve had an ongoing relationship with Epic Games throughout PUBG’s development as they are the creators of UE4, the engine we licensed for the game,” Bluehole’s Chang Han Kim said in the press release. “After listening to the growing feedback from our community and reviewing the gameplay for ourselves, we are concerned that Fortnite may be replicating the experience for which PUBG is known.
