DC Universe Online closes down on PS3 in January

DC Universe Online, which launched on the PlayStation 3 in 2011, will shut down its presence on that console at the end of January in order to focus development on other platforms, Daybreak Game Company has announced.

Support terminates on Jan. 31, 2018, Daybreak said. The studio reminded players that joining the game on PlayStation 4 under the same PlayStation Network account used on PS3 will transfer all of the user’s player information, subscriptions and DLC purchases to the PS4.

Housemarque says it’s leaving arcade-style games behind

Housemarque, the Finnish studio best known for explosive action games like Super Stardust, Resogun and Nex Machina, says it’s no longer developing that style of arcade-inspired game. While the developer has received critical acclaim for its work, Housemarque said, too many of its arcade-style games haven’t achieved commercial success.

In a blog post titled “Arcade is dead,” Housemarque CEO Ilari Kuittinen cited underwhelming sales of Nex Machina as one of the reasons for the studio’s transition away from arcade games. It’s time for “to move forward” with the rest of the industry, Kuittinen said.

“The Beta gave us a welcome chance to test all of our systems in action and tune things up for better balance,” the blog post reads. “A few weeks back, we mentioned we were going to take another look at how the progression system works.”

Steam blocking adult game developers from sharing uncensored patches

Makers of certain adults-only games on Steam are now barred from sharing official patches to uncensor their games, according to a post by one studio affected by the change. Despite Valve age-gating adult content on Steam, Galaxy Girls developer Dharker Studio wrote that the platform would no longer allow it to share official information on removing any censored parts of its game.

A thread on the Galaxy Girls discussion page on Steam asked where the instructions to install the uncensored patch for the sexy-queer-spaceship visual novel were located, noting that the game’s official site points to the Steam store page to find them.
