Overwatch’s Blizzard World map is full of fun Easter eggs

Overwatch is getting a new map that’s part theme park, part tribute to more than two decades of Blizzard games. And since staffers from across Blizzard Entertainment weighed in on the development of the Blizzard World map, it’s stuffed with inside jokes and Easter eggs for Blizzard fans.

The Blizzard World park is split up into sections based on the game maker’s popular properties: Diablo, StarCraft, Hearthstone and Warcraft. There’s even a nod to The Lost Vikings, with a little confused-John-Travolta-from-Pulp Fiction meme thrown in.

Watch Dogs will be free on PC for a limited time

The original Watch Dogs is available for free for a limited time for those registered for Ubisoft’s Uplay service. The promotion runs from Nov. 7 through Nov. 13 and only applies to the PC version of the game.

Watch Dogs was originally released in 2014 and tells the story of a skilled hacker named Aiden Pearce in a near-future Chicago. The game was lauded for its novel gameplay, which utilized an in-game cell phone to tamper with the city’s infrastructure in unique ways. In Polygon’s review, we said that “as a hybrid open-world stealth-action game, it’s in a class by itself.”

YouTubers are calling out Nintendo for its policy on streaming, uploads

The relationship between Nintendo and YouTubers has been contentious for quite some time, and the release of Super Mario Odyssey has done little to quell those concerns.

Game critic and popular YouTuber, videogamedunkey (Jason Gastrow), tweeted out an image last night condemning Nintendo for claiming copyright content in a review video he uploaded. The tweet comes after Dunkey spoke about his grievances with Nintendo on a recent podcast, admitting he knew that the video was going to get demonetized but was going to move forward with it anyway. Dunkey’s tweet was met with similar airing of grievances from other YouTubers in the gaming community, including Boogie2988, who have called out Nintendo in the past for the company’s policy on how YouTubers use the publisher’s games in videos.

Why StarCraft 2 is going free-to-play

More than seven years after the launch of StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty, Blizzard Entertainment is making the real-time strategy game free-to-play. The developer announced its plans to release the game and its first campaign for free at BlizzCon 2017 this week, a move that will open StarCraft 2 up to a broader audience.

Blizzard’s Tim Morten, production director on StarCraft 2, said conversations about moving to a free-to-play model have been happening for a while, but that it was important to make the change palatable to new and existing players.
