Star Wars Battlefront 2 heroes come at a substantial cost

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is available in a one-week preview through EA Access on Xbox One and Origin Access on Windows PC, and players are starting to get an idea of the game’s multiple systems for currency, unlocking characters, and advancing in rank. Here’s a good breakdown of how far a new user can take the game buy peeling off those dollar bills, slapping them down.

For unlockable characters, it takes even more. One player’s analysis of their time in the preview so far suggests that obtaining a top-flight hero for multiplayer, like Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader, would require 40 hours of dedicated multiplayer time.

PUBG dev’s next game is an over-the-top steampunk MMO

Bluehole, the original developers of Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds, have announced their next title. It’s an MMO called Ascent: Infinite Realm, and it looks pretty intense.

Take a hefty dose of steampunk, mix in some classic sword and sworcery gameplay and season to taste with a handful of mecha and you’ll have only scratched the surface of the upcoming MMO.

Splatoon 2’s next Splatfest pits sci-fi against fantasy

The next Splatfest for Splatoon 2 will force players to make a hard choice: Do you prefer your swords forged of Valyrian steel or emitting a white hot plasma beam? Would your preferred mode of transport be on the back of a winged dragon or a lightspeed-capable space freighter?

In other words: fantasy or sci-fi?

Wolfenstein 2’s DLC offers a welcome break from B.J. Blazkowicz

Wolfenstein 2’s DLC offers a welcome break from B.J. Blazkowicz

Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus’ season pass content unlocked earlier this week, giving us access to the first of four episodic adventures that shift us away from B.J. Blazkowicz’s traumatic tale toward something lighter. “Lighter” is admittedly relative when it comes to these pulpy, alternative-WWII scenarios where you’re still killing Nazis, of course. But The Freedom Chronicles is set to be a series of joyously comic book-style adventures, if its premiere, “Episode Zero,” is anything to go by.

Episode Zero functions as a prologue to the larger season pass storyline, which will consist of three more distinct stories. Each will star an original character unseen in The New Colossus’ campaign. There’s Gunslinger Joe, an African-American quarterback with super strength and speed; Jessica Valiant, a.k.a. Agent Silent Death, who’s a badass with an eye-patch and an unbelievable ability to crouch and crawl through tight spaces; and Captain Gerald Wilkins, who is best described as “B.J. Blazkowicz if he were a classic American Hero, but also had stilt legs.”

The Anti-Defamation League hosted its first game jam

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL), in partnership with the Museum of Art and Digital Entertainment (MADE), recently held its first game jam, called Being An Ally Jam. The week-long event brought together 20 teams of developers from around the world. The goal was to create a game that embodied the themes promoted by the ADL’s anti-bias curriculum.

The jam was held in person at three sites around the United States — Austin, Texas, New York City and Oakland, California — and virtually online. More than 20 games were created. The winning entry, called Ali Tale, tells the story of a young girl named Ali who stumbles across a mystical cat that enables her to understand people better. With the cat’s help, she is better able to support her friends and help stop bullying online and in person.

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon somehow make Mimikyu even weirder

Poor Mimikyu — the Alola region’s special Pikachu knockoff — already has a reputation for being the most deceptively dark Pokémon of the current generation. While the ghost-/fairy-type Pokémon has developed a cult fandom since last year’s Pokémon Sun and Moon because of its creepy-cute style, its appearance in upcoming Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon plays up just how disturbing it is.

Mimikyu will receive an exclusive new Z-Move in the next set of games, which are out on Nintendo 3DS on Nov. 17. Using the new Mimikium Z item, a Z-Crystal that allows players to power up the little guy, Mimikyu can tap into its hidden strength to unleash an attack called Let’s Snuggle Forever.
