EA slashes Battlefront 2 unlock hero costs after backlash

Star Wars Battlefront 2’s heavy costs for unlocking prime playable heroes are getting a big haircut — by 75 percent — following a weekend in which players deduced it would take 40 hours of multiplayer gameplay alone to get to Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker.

The news came in a blog post on the Battlefront site this afternoon. An update coming today reduces Vader and Skywalker’s unlock costs to 15,000 credits, the in-game currency that cannot be bought for real money (though it can be indirectly acquired; more on that in a second).

Pokémon Go update brings a little Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon into the game

Pokémon Go players can dress their avatars up like the trainers from Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, thanks to a giveaway that’s now live in the mobile game.

Ahead of this Friday’s release of the Nintendo 3DS titles, Pokémon Go players can pick up free outfits that are directly inspired by the stars of Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. For girls, there’s a sun hat, sandals, shorts and a nice, flowery tank top to pick up; guys have new sneakers, shorts, a bucket hat, a tank and, for some reason, leggings to throw on.

Here’s when you can play Wolfenstein 2’s three DLC packs

Three add-ons are on the way for Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus, and we now know when we’ll be able to continue the rebellion against Nazi dominance. Publisher Bethesda Softworks announced release dates for two of the three downloadable content packs, all of which make up the game’s $24.99 season pass.

Wolfenstein 2’s first post-launch DLC pack, The Adventures of Gunslinger Joe, is set to be released Dec. 14. The Diaries of Agent Silent Death will follow six weeks later on Jan. 30, 2018. There’s no concrete release date for the third and final add-on, The Amazing Deeds of Captain Wilkins; Bethesda said only that it plans to release that DLC pack in March. The company has confirmed that it will be possible to buy the three DLC packs individually, although it has yet to announce pricing.

Call of Duty: WWII still has issues with online play, and the developer is scrambling

It was only just this February when Activision touted its ability to host three large communities of Call of Duty players online at the same time. Now, barely 10 days after the release of Call of Duty: WWII, it’s all hands on deck as the game struggles to meet player expectations.

On Sunday, developer Sledgehammer issued a statement regarding a host of issues with the game’s multiplayer. It began with an apology.

EA responded to Battlefront 2 unlock estimates, and gamers weren’t having it

An Electronic Arts representative on Sunday responded to the claim that unlocking one of Battlefront 2’s biggest heroes or villains will take 40 hours of gameplay. It did not go very well.

EA’s community team responded in a thread on the Battlefront subreddit yesterday saying that the time required to unlock Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker was meant “to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes.”

Report: Gal Gadot will not do Wonder Woman sequel if accused film producer remains on

Gal Gadot, the star of this year’s Wonder Woman, is refusing to join the sequel due for a December 2019 premiere date if Brett Ratner remains connected to the project, the New York Post reported on Sunday.

Ratner is now alleged to have masturbated in a car seat next to an unnamed model. It’s not the first allegation against Ratner in the ongoing accusations and revelations of sexual misconduct by powerful Hollywood men, some of whom have admitted the allegations. On Nov. 1, the Los Angeles Times reported six women’s allegations, including one of forced oral sex, against Ratner.

Railway Empire comes to consoles and PC in January

Railway Empire, which we previewed back at GDC 2017, will launch on Jan. 26, on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One, publisher Kalypso Media has announced.

Railroad construction sims haven’t seen a new full-size launch since Sid Meier’s Railroads! a successor to the Railroad Tycoon series, on Windows PC back in 2006. Railway Empire is another play by Kalypso for a genre and PC audience largely abandoned by publishers. In October, Kalypso launched Dungeons 3, which has taken over the dungeon-builder subgenre from a Dungeon Keeper series whose last edition was a much vilified mobile title.
