Zelda producer’s acceptance speech for game of the year award is pretty honest

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild won the Golden Joystick award for “Ultimate Game of the Year” today, and while the development team apparently wasn’t able to accept the award in person — the ceremony was held in London; Nintendo is headquartered in Kyoto, Japan — their video acceptance speech was refreshingly honest and humble.

Veteran Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma was joined by Breath of the Wild art director Satoru Takizawa, technical director Takuhiro Dohta and sound director Hajime Waikai, and the four talked about their goals and challenges in developing the open-world adventure game. Aonuma thanked fans for voting for Breath of the Wild and the 300-plus Nintendo employees who worked on the game.

How to find the Zelda gear in Skyrim on the Switch

How to find the Zelda gear in Skyrim on the Switch

Bethesda has “hidden” three Zelda-themed items in the Nintendo Switch version of Skyrim, but they’re relatively easy to find even if you don’t own any amiibo. The game includes the Champion’s Tunic, Hylian Shield and the Master Sword, and if you equip them all at once you’re ready to basically cosplay as Link in Tamriel.

The most basic way to find all three items is to climb to the highest point in Skyrim, The Throat of the World, and there they will be in a chest for you to grab. The items themselves will scale to your present level, so be sure to grab them after you’ve spent some time on yourself first. The game’s story will ultimately take you to that location, so you’re bound to get the equipment whether you go specifically looking for it or not.

What’s the difference between Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon?

What’s the difference between Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon?

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are less like new games in the RPG franchise, and more like definitive remakes of last year’s Pokémon Sun and Moon. That includes what makes each one different from the other — but in case you didn’t play Sun and Moon already, it’s important to know what those differences are. If nothing else, knowing the exclusives should help you decide whether you’d rather play Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon.

Pokémon Ultra Sun once again gives players the chance to catch Solgaleo, a steel-/psychic-type Pokémon. Meanwhile, Ultra Moon stars the psychic-/ghost-type Lunala. Note that they each have a new form in the games that weren’t obtainable in Sun and Moon.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 appears to ditch real-money currency

Star Wars Battlefront 2 appears to no longer offer paid microtransactions in-game. Crystals, the form of in-game currency that can be purchased for real dollars, are no longer sold on either storefront.

Although the in-game store still lists prices in crystals alongside loot crates, selecting the option to buy more of the currency returns a blank screen, as Polygon found in the Xbox One version. Crystals are still sold on the Xbox Store, however. On the PlayStation Store, however, both the BF2 Starter Pack (which includes 1,500 crystals) and 4,400 crystals pack have been removed entirely. They’ve also been pulled from Electronic Arts’ Origin storefront, which is used with the Windows PC version.

The SNES Classic outsold the PS4 and Xbox One again in October

Nintendo followed up its stellar September by taking the top two spots on the U.S. hardware sales charts yet again in October, the company announced today.

The Nintendo Switch was the top-selling gaming console in the U.S. during the month of October, followed by the Super NES Classic Edition, according to data from the retail tracking firm NPD Group. That’s an inversion of September, when the SNES Classic came in ahead of the Switch. Either way, Nintendo continues to outdo Sony and Microsoft: The Switch has outsold the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One every month from July onward. And in both September and October, Nintendo’s hardware performance (including the 3DS) accounted for two-thirds of all U.S. gaming hardware sales, which surpassed 1 million units — the first time that has happened in October since 2011.

The Surge’s new expansion has you fight murderous theme park mascots

Action role-playing game The Surge is sending players to a corrupted amusement park with next month’s expansion, A Walk in the Park. The expansion’s name certainly appears to contradict the hellish experience of visiting the park, which was built by the same company behind the industrial complex in the original game.

A Walk in the Park takes place in CREO World, an amusement park built for the employees and families of CREO. The park, in its twisted post-apocalyptic state, is inhabited by crazed rescue teams and deadly robotic mascots, some of which you can see in the teaser trailer above.
