GTFO, from the designer of the Payday series, is announced with an amazing trailer

The designer of Payday and Payday 2 has launched a new studio called 10 Chambers Collective. The studio announced a new game called, no joke, GTFO during the Game Awards tonight. You can watch the game’s announcement trailer above, and it looks pretty damned great based on the footage shown.

GTFO is a terrifying 4 player co-op game for hardcore FPS players, brought to you by the game designer behind the Payday franchise,” the trailer’s description reads. “Players get to play as a team of scavengers, forced to explore and extract valuable artifacts from a vast underground complex that has been overrun by horrifying monsters. Gather weapons, tools and resources to help you survive — and work to unearth the answers about your past and how to escape. GTFO is set to be released 2018.”

The best part about The Game Awards was this developer’s ‘fuck the Oscars’ rant

Josef Fares put himself on the map in 2012 with a heartfelt narrative-driven adventure game called Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. But the developer has a reputation for not keeping his opinions to himself, and he lived up to it at The Game Awards tonight, going off-script with a lengthy, scatterbrained rant that left everyone pulling their collars.

Fares, the co-founder of Swedish indie studio Hazelight, appeared at The Game Awards to introduce a new trailer for his next project, A Way Out. He was also supposed to discuss some news: the game’s March release date and a unique co-op trial. But Fares, who has a background in film as well as games, began by telling the crowd how excited he was to be at the show — by proclaiming the superiority of The Game Awards to the Oscars.

A Way Out’s co-op trial lets one partner play for free

A Way Out, the narrative-driven adventure game from the team behind the acclaimed Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, is a co-op-only experience. That is, you can’t play it unless you have a partner for the entire journey. But in an unusual setup, the online and local co-op experiences will be identical in one huge way: Only one of you will have to buy the game.

Electronic Arts — which is publishing A Way Out under its EA Originals program — will offer a free “friends pass” trial for the game, the company announced tonight during The Game Awards 2017. As long as you know someone who has purchased A Way Out, you can download the trial and play “the entire co-op experience” with that person without paying for it, said EA. In essence, it’ll work just like inviting a friend to your house to play the game on your couch.
