You can beat Super Mario Odyssey without a single jump (but its ridiculous)

What exactly does Super Mario Odyssey consider a jump? And is it possible to beat the game without jumping? The answer to the second question is yes, and the answer to the first question takes approximately 14 minutes to explain.

The video above by Gamechamp3000 sets up what should be an impossible challenge -- to finish the game without jumping — and goes incredibly deep into the game’s logic to figure out how to make it happen. Super Mario Odyssey actually counts jumps for you, so it’s possible to figure out what the game itself does and does not consider a jump.

Build-A-Bear’s Nintendo collection is an adorable take on Super Mario

Build-A-Bear’s Nintendo collection is an adorable take on Super Mario

Nintendo and Build-A-Bear Workshop have teamed up for a surprise collaboration, giving fans a chance to craft their own huggable versions of some of the most beloved Super Mario characters. Like the Pokémon collection, Nintendo’s set of bears look a lot like the characters they’re based on — except for one notable character who is creepier than he is cute.

The ones that look most familiar are Bowser, Yoshi and a tiny Toad. I definitely want to hold all of them in my arms, possibly even at the same time.

The Predator is coming to Ghost Recon Wildlands

Ubisoft is releasing an update to Ghost Recon Wildlands on Dec. 14, and it looks like the content pack is going to include a very special guest. You can watch the trailer above.

“Can you survive the Hunt?” the trailer’s official text states. “Watch this teaser and stay tuned to find out more about this upcoming Ghost Recon Wildlands special event!”

Frank Ocean is spinning tracks in GTA Online’s newest radio station

Grand Theft Auto Online’s coolest feature is its constantly updating number of radio stations. The latest DJ to get his own show on Los Santos’ local airwaves is perhaps Rockstar’s coolest choice yet: Frank Ocean.

I admit to having a slight personal bias here: Frank Ocean is one of my all-time favorites. But any new content from the artist is a widespread cause for celebration. After his critical breakthrough, Channel Orange, Ocean went underground for several years, toying with his follow-up. That led to last year’s similarly successful Blonde, which is the clear inspiration behind his GTA Online station.

See PUBG’s Xbox One and Xbox One X performance issues for yourself

You can watch the video above to see for yourself, complete with impressive frame rate improvements on the Xbox One X version when compared to the entry-level Xbox One. The most powerful console on the market still fails to hit 30 frames per second consistently, however.

Trying to look at the game’s frame rate in any scientific way is next to impossible, however. No matter how many things you try to control, your experience is always going to be somewhat anecdotal.

Despite Game Awards 2017’s record success, Geoff Keighley wants to cool it on big reveals

Geoff Keighley had a hunch that this year’s Game Awards would see a bump in viewership, following last year’s successful show. But with legitimately surprising premieres, an explosive viral moment and praised musical performances, The Game Awards 2017 grew by 202 percent — an increase that host Keighley called “off the charts.”

This year saw more than 11.5 million individual streams of The Game Awards 2017, according to Keighley and his crew. The show’s hashtag was used nearly three times more than the previous year, with people tweeting twice as much about the event overall. That all led to The Game Awards being the most talked about show the night of Dec. 7, according to Nielsen; it even beat out traditional broadcast and cable television.

Here are Overwatch’s Winter Wonderland 2017 skins

Overwatch’s newest seasonal event, Winter Wonderland, kicks off today, Dec. 12. The holiday-themed event brings back last year’s seasonal game mode, Mei’s Snowball Offensive, and adds a new mode, Yeti Hunt, in which five Mei players will hunt down one “Yeti” Winston.

Of course, an Overwatch seasonal event also means new skins. For Winter Wonderland 2017, Blizzard is bringing back last year’s skins — Rudolph Roadhog, Nutcracker Zenyatta, Jingle Tracer, etc. — as well as new epic and legendary skins.

Ni no Kuni 2 delayed a second time to March 2018

Ni no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom has been delayed for a second time. Previously scheduled for Jan. 19, 2018, the role-playing game will instead launch on March 23, 2018.

In a note about the shifted release date, director and CEO of development studio Level-5 Akihiro Hino wrote that the team is still tinkering with the game to ensure it “meets our highest quality standards.”

Super Mario Cereal is perfectly edible

Super Mario Cereal will not be your new favorite breakfast food. Now available at several local retailers, Mario’s official cereal isn’t bad, per se — it’s totally fine. But between its lackluster amiibo functionality and uninspiring taste, we have trouble recommending it.

The “we” in this case is both Ashley Oh, social media manager and breakfast connoisseur, and me, who underwent a rigorous taste test on Super Mario Cereal’s launch day, Dec. 11. Armed with a tiny bowl and strangely flat wooden spoon provided by Nintendo, we went on our own, special kind of Super Mario odyssey.

GTA Online’s newest raid, The Doomsday Heist, is available now

Grand Theft Auto Online has launched what Rockstar Games calls its “biggest adventure yet,” The Doomsday Heist, now available in Grand Theft Auto 5.

The Doomsday Heist covers “three sprawling acts” and allows different crews of two to four players each to work cooperatively in completing the goals. Naturally, it involves thwarting a far-out plot “so diabolical it could end life as we know it.”
