Eve Online is gearing up for a ‘million dollar battle’

Eve Online, the epic spacefaring MMO, is gearing up for a major engagement this evening. At least one user on Reddit is hyping it as a “$1,000,000 battle.”

The Imperium, led by Alex “The Mittani” Gianturco’s Goonswarm Federation, is set to lay siege to a massive player-owned installation belonging to Pandemic Horde. The battle will take place in the 9-4R system, along the western edge of the game world.

Overwatch’s Blizzard World update is here with rad new skins and loot

Blizzard Entertainment released a new update for Overwatch today that adds a new map, the theme park-inspired Blizzard World, and a bunch of cosmetic items, including skins, emotes, sprays and highlight intro animations. Unlike a lot of other Overwatch content drops, this one’s not a seasonal, limited-time event. Players can earn those new legendary and epic skins for Overwatch from regular loot boxes.

You can check out a fly-through of Blizzard World in the above trailer, which Blizzard released during last year’s BlizzCon. Our friends at Heroes Never Die also have a guide to all the Blizzard references contained within the map.

There are 23 new Pokémon available in Pokémon Go as of today, Niantic announced. An image accompanying the release teased several of the Hoenn region monsters now obtainable in the game — but players are left to guess which additional third-gen Pokémon not hinted at are also now available.

The following Pokémon are the ones we can confidently say are now in the wild in Pokémon Go:

Watch Civilization 6 expansion Rise and Fall gameplay

Last week I got to play the first 150 turns of Civilization 6: Rise and Fall, an expansion that’s due for release on Feb. 8.

Our gameplay video shows off some of the game’s new ideas, including the notion of cities showing disloyalty to the empire, specialist governors who come with specific boosts, and new ways to interact with AI allies. The video also touches on some of the new leaders who’ll be making an appearance, including Wilhemina, Queen of the Netherlands, Seondeok of Korea and Poundmaker of The Cree.

Kursk will tell the story of a tragic Russian naval disaster

On April 20, 2000, the Russian Navy’s nuclear submarine K-141 Kursk sank in the Barents Sea, killing all 118 sailors on board. Now, a game studio is attempting to tell that story in what they’re claiming will be the “first fully fledged adventure-documentary game in history.”

Kursk is being developed by Jujubee Studio. In a press release issued late last week, they released new screenshots as well as an updated feature set.

Nantucket is part Moby Dick sequel, part PC board game

Call yourself Ishmael in Nantucket, a new PC strategy game available on Steam. I’ve spent a few hours with it, and so far I like what I’m seeing. It’s an ambitious strategy title set in the golden age of sail, and it’s absolutely dripping with its theme. But don’t go into it expecting a rich, narrative journey. The game has much more in common with a European-style board game than with a traditional novel.

In Nantucket, you’ll travel the globe in search of fame and fortune. Along the way you’ll need to build up the skills of your crew, improve your ship and ultimately do battle on the high seas. Fights play out on a small battle board, where players roll dice for the chance to use a discrete set of skills against their enemies. More powerful characters will have fewer blank sides on their dice, and as the game progresses you’ll have more characters and more options in every battle.

Flashy new God of War trailer announces an April 20 release date on PS4

Kratos’ next adventure, the decidedly different take on the God of War franchise, is coming to PlayStation 4 on April 20, Sony announced today.

Sony Interactive Entertainment and God of War creative director Cory Barlog confirmed the game’s release date alongside a new narrative-focused trailer. In that trailer, posted above, we get a preview of the story of Kratos and his son Atreus as they embark on a new adventure set in the world of Norse myth. Here’s how Sony describes that new father-son adventure:

Take a look at Nintendo’s HQ nearly 130 years ago

Nearly a century before Nintendo became synonymous with video games, the comapny operated as a producer of Hanafuda, or “flower cards,” in a modest building in Kyoto. A rediscovered photo provides a clear look at this moment in the company’s history.

The photo was published online late last year as part of the Meiji150 project, a celebration of Kyoto history on the 150th anniversary of the Meiji era. That was a period from 1868 to 1912 in which Japan, under the reign of Emperor Meiji, emerged from an isolated, feudal society into modernity. The story accompanying the image recounts Fusajiro Yamauchi’s founding of Nintendo, alongside the works of civil engineering that created the infrastructure for the company’s first office.

Xbox Game Pass, the all-you-can-eat game subscription for the Xbox One, will now include all games exclusive to the console on the day they launch, beginning with Rare’s multiplayer pirate adventure Sea of Thieves in March, Microsoft announced this morning.

The announcement means future exclusives, such as Crackdown 3, will be available to Xbox One owners who sign up for the $9.99 monthly subscription. Xbox Game Pass launched in June with more than 100 titles in its library and has added more than 70 games since then, from both the Xbox One and Xbox 360’s back catalog.
