Pokémon Go’s daily quests sound like what the game needs

Pokémon Go’s next version update is a huge one, and Niantic wants to make sure everyone knows it. The developer published a lengthy post that further explains how the new daily quest (a.k.a. Research) feature, will work when it goes live on March 30 — and the details suggest it’s actually game-changing, and for the better.

“Throughout our design process, we focused on the idea that research tasks could accommodate nearly any exploration style–from players who often prefer to go on adventures alone, to groups containing dozens of Trainers–and would range in difficulty to provide a challenge even for experienced Trainers,” the development team wrote. “As a result, you’ll notice that many of these tasks focus on skill and execution rather than depending on random chance.”

Fortnite’s new guided missile launcher looks fun

Fortnite Battle Royale players are about to get a new weapon that looks like it could lead to a lot of fun moments (and some controller-throwing deaths): the guided missile launcher.

Epic teased the new weapon today, which is listed in the game as “coming soon.” The rocket launcher will obviously give players a huge advantage in taking out enemies from afar, but they’ll likely be pretty vulnerable while hunting down their target. The new missile launcher joins the recently added remote bomb as a tool that Fortnite players who prefer to kill from afar will appreciate.

This horny Switch game wants to get you talkin’ dirty

One year later, it’s here: the Nintendo Switch’s most shamelessly horny ... interactive experience. Shin Den Ai (Nani ga Hoshii no?) ~Eri Kitami~ is hard to call an actual game, from what I’ve experienced. The game, part of publisher Dorasu’s line of Shin Den Ai apps, is a vehicle both for adult model Kitami and for your most carnal impulses.

We’re all adults here, so let’s get right to it. Shin Den Ai (Nani ga Hoshii no?) ~Eri Kitami~, which launches on the Japanese eShop March 29 for 500 yen, is a port of an Android game that has a very basic premise. You have a selection of costumed lady contacts, each played by Kitami; you can choose to call up whoever you’re feeling, whether it’s Sexy Teacher or Sexy Maid or Sexy Cosplayer or so on and so forth. Depending on how you respond to that big question — What do you want? — they might text you a pic or a video. There are apparently more than 150 of these texts, which I can only assume get progressively racier.

Far Cry 5 players have already created Counter-Strike, PUBG and Call of Duty maps

Far Cry 5’s arcade mode is one of the most interesting parts of the game, allowing players to create their own maps and challenges to share with others. You can even earn in-game currency and perks by playing through maps created by the community.

Of course, players are using these tools to recreate the games they love, and the results are rocketing to the top of the mode’s charts. This version of Counter-Strike’s legendary de_dust2 map allows players to tap into their memories of the original for effective strategies.

And obviously someone jumped straight into designing their take on PUBG. It looks pretty good!

Sea of Thieves on the PC runs well, with strange limitations

The graphical fidelity enthusiasts at Digital Foundry have taken a deep dive into the performance of the PC version of Sea of Thieves, and the results are pretty interesting ... and a bit frustrating for anyone who would like to play on the PC. You can watch the whole video above, and it’s an interesting look at the game.

Sea of Thieves is only available through the Windows Store, and is locked down in multiple ways to limit your control over the graphical options and even things like the language options and resolution.

Doom getting 4K patches for Xbox One X and PS4 Pro

The long-awaited patch to add Xbox One X enhancements to Doom is finally coming tomorrow, March 29. And in a pleasant surprise, developer id Software is also updating the PlayStation 4 version tomorrow with support for the PlayStation 4 Pro.

Bethesda announced way back at E3 2017 that Doom would be an “Xbox One X Enhanced” game, but never gave any indication of timing for the patch. And the company has not previously announced plans to add PS4 Pro support to the game.

April’s PlayStation Plus games include Mad Max, Trackmania

Sony announced its April lineup of PlayStation Plus game giveaways. Compared to this month — which features the stellar Bloodborne, worth a PS Plus membership on its own — and Xbox Games With Gold’s April lineup, this list isn’t much to write home about.

That’s not to suggest that the headlining games this month aren’t worth checking out. Despite its beautiful visuals, Mad Max for PlayStation 4 received a lukewarm response in 2015, but has found some belated appreciation since its release. Trackmania Turbo is also a decent, arcade-style racing game that’s fun for fans of the genre.

Xbox Games With Gold for April features some amazing games

April’s collection of Xbox Games With Gold titles is one of the best months for the program we’ve seen in a long, long time. Three of the best games of the past two console generations will be on offer for Xbox Live subscribers beginning April 1.

For the entire month, 2016’s fantastic (and fantastically hard) puzzle game The Witness will be free to all Xbox Live members. Two weeks later, on April 16, subscribers will be able to pick up Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, one of the most acclaimed entries in the long-running franchise. That offer is good through May 15.

How expensive are Far Cry 5’s microtransactions?

Far Cry 5 has one of the better economies we’ve seen in big releases lately, with items and weapons that can be purchased with in-game currency or by buying silver bars with real cash. The good news is that the economy feels perfect, bordering on generous with unlocks and cash, even if you ignore the real-money options available in the menu.

But how much will things cost if you decide to pay for some of the premium currency? We can take a closer look at the real-world prices of some of these items now that the game is live and the store has been updated with the bundles of silver bars

PlayStation VR gets another hefty price cut

Sony is cutting the price of the PlayStation VR headset — for the second time in the hardware’s lifespan. Starting March 29, the virtual reality gear and accompanying bundles will cost as much as $100 less.

Currently priced at $349, the PlayStation VR headset on its own will drop to $299 as of tomorrow. That’s not insignificant, but the big cuts are coming to the bundles. A package that includes the PSVR headset, a PlayStation Camera, Demo Disc 2.0 and the “VFR” version of Doom will cost $299, the same as the individual headset — 25 percent less than its original $399 price.
