Overwatch’s Uprising event returns in April

Overwatch’s Uprising event is back for a second round in April. Starting on Tuesday, April 10, the Uprising brawl will be live, again focusing on the history of Tracer and the Overwatch crew.

There will be more than 100 loot box items to unlock that further reveal the stories of the original members of Overwatch, according to Blizzard. The co-op brawl will again be set at King’s Row, a pivotal moment in the Overwatch lore that made its first in-game appearance during last year’s big event.

Why Red Faction: Guerrilla’s remaster is a big deal

Red Faction: Guerrilla is one of the best games of the past decade; unfortunately, most people still haven’t played it. Hopefully, that’s about to change. Today, THQ Nordic revealed Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered, a remaster for PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One.

(Yes, the name is real. Yes, it’s tacky. No, I don’t think we can convince them to change it.)

Nintendo Switch eShop update stars a classic puzzle game

There aren’t any huge names in this week’s Nintendo Switch eShop update — but for genre fans, there are definitely at least two games to consider. A Game Boy Color classic is back again, nearly 20 years after its original 2001 release; meanwhile, a cult favorite JRPG franchise is also celebrating its 20th anniversary with a new game, one of the few JRPGs currently on Switch.

That returning game is Toki Tori, the chicken-starring puzzle platformer that’s been only slightly refreshed over the years, because a good puzzle game needs few changes. The little chicken uses different tools to problem-solve his way through more than 80 levels, each one full of eggs. If you’re a fan of eggs, hardcore puzzles or both, Toki Tori is one of those games that’s good to just have on you whenever you want to bust your brain for a bit.

Fortnite update adds guided missiles, Easter egg launchers and Sniper Shootout

Epic Games released a new update for Fortnite today — version 3.4 of the game — that adds a new weapon, the guided missile launcher, and brings back the Boogie Bomb to Battle Royale. On the Save the World side of the game, expect some Easter-themed cosmetic items and quests.

Fortnite’s new guided missile weapon lets players fire a rocket-propelled explosive and take direct control of it. “Once you take on the missile’s point-of-view, you’re unable to move your character,” Epic said in Fortnite’s 3.4 patch notes. “Disconnect from the missile at any time, [and] the missile will continue its trajectory.”

MLB’s stat-crunchingest video game predicts a World Series win for L.A.

Major League Baseball’s opening day is today — yes, you read that correctly. It is the earliest the season has ever started, and only the sixth time in the past 100 years the season has opened on a Thursday. Twenty-eight of the 30 clubs are playing, also a record. (Cincinnati and Detroit would have made it a full 30, but, hey, weather happened.)

Out Of The Park Baseball, the acclaimed management simulation for Windows PC, Mac and Linux, provided official predictions for MLB Network last night, supplementing about a dozen panelists (among them MLB The Show 18 announcers Matt Vasgersian and Dan Plesac). But where those panelists are giving a single gut call before the first of 162 games for each team are played, OOTP 19 ran 1,000 simulations.

Tencent isn’t just Ubisoft’s savior — it’s the world’s biggest gaming company

If you live in North America or Europe, you might think that Activision, Ubisoft or Riot Games are in the running for the title of “World’s Biggest Video Game Company.” You’d be wrong, but each of these does have a connection to the company wearing the crown.

Tencent is the world’s largest gaming company, and it owns pieces of Activision, Riot and more. Over the past seven years, the Chinese giant has been buying up bits and pieces of video game companies, expanding its influence throughout the Western world. Tencent has been in the news again lately thanks to helping Ubisoft stave off a hostile takeover by French entertainment giant Vivendi.
