SNK Anniversary Collection coming to Nintendo Switch

SNK is bringing a selection of its classic arcade and console games to Nintendo Switch this fall as the SNK 40th Anniversary Collection. The compilation focuses on the company’s games released during the 1980s — the pre-Neo Geo era.

The SNK 40th Anniversary Collection will include at least 13 titles, some of which have both arcade and console versions. In publisher NIS America’s announcement, the company said more titles are to come, but here’s what’s confirmed so far:

Splinter Cell’s Sam Fisher teased for Ghost Recon Wildlands crossover

It looks like Splinter Cell’s Sam Fisher is back in action — and coming to Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands. Ubisoft released a new teaser today that very strongly hints that the star of Splinter Cell is teaming up with the Ghost Recon squad for some action down ol’ South America way.

The teaser, for a special operations mission named The Call, features Fisher (aka “Matchwood”), clearly voiced by Michael Ironside, responding to a transmission from “Paladin.”

Sea of Thieves updates to address players’ biggest complaints

Rare is beginning to address some of Sea of Thieves players’ biggest complaints, as the developer detailed in a blog post about their “top feedback points.” And to players’ appreciation, the highest priority changes to come sound pretty good.

“As with everything on Sea of Thieves, we will make changes, get them out to players and assess how effective they are, using feedback and data to decide whether we need to take more steps,” wrote executive producer Joe Neate, introducing a list of players’ most common issues and how the team plans to address them.

Summer Games Done Quick lineup leaves Super Mario Odyssey outside main event

The organizers of Summer Games Done Quick have announced the lineup of games and speedrunners (but not yet the schedule and times) for Summer Games Done Quick 2018, which is taking place a little more than two months from now.

A notable omission, somewhat, is that Super Mario Odyssey is a bonus game and not in the main event. Super Mario Odyssey is the second-most run game on Speedrun.com and has seen a rather intense battle for first place in its Any% category over the past month. The current record holder, NicroVeda, will take a crack at Any%.

Sixty-second killer Minit is a perfect game for speedrunning

Minit, a tiny adventure game out this week that challenges players to get as far as possible in one-minute chunks before killing you off, is turning out to be an amazing game to speedrun — if even just to watch, if not to try yourself.

The whole game should take around 90 minutes or so, if you’re not trying to blaze through it. (It could take longer if you’re going for collectibles or exploring every inch.) A counter at the very end almost dares players to try again to beat their time, though, with the end screen detailing the total playtime and the amount that players died throughout the game.

The NBA 2K League draft proved that the NBA is serious about esports

After more than a year of buildup, yesterday the NBA 2K League took the biggest and most important step yet in its formation: conducting a draft to set up its teams of professional gamers.

The esports organization has had a somewhat rocky road to this point, and its officials seem to be aware of the challenges that lie ahead. The draft wasn’t just going to be a coming-out party for the incipient league and its 102 all-male esports athletes. It was going to set expectations for this joint venture between the NBA and Take-Two Interactive — two very established players in their respective fields, stepping into an arena in which they’re the new guys.

PSA: Toys R Us gift cards expire in two weeks

This is a friendly reminder that Toys R Us customers holding gift cards with a balance on them have a limited time to use them: April 21, to be exact, which is two weeks from Saturday.

This PSA is coming up because, for some reason, Bed, Bath & Beyond mentioned it would accept Toys R Us gift cards for store credit, in case you wanted to cash out in votive candles and a margarita dispenser. But blink and you might miss that offer: It’s good only until tonight at 11:59 ET.

Street Fighter board game is already fully funded on Kickstarter

There’s a wild new project on Kickstarter right now for an official Street fighter board game. It’s co-designed by YouTuber Joe “Angry Joe” Vargas, who first introduced the prototype game system on his channel. The campaign launched with a $400,000 ask and has already exceeded that goal, but if you’re thinking of signing on for this one you’re going to want to read the fine print.

The campaign is for a product called Street Fighter: The Miniatures Game and, as is so common these days for tabletop games on Kickstarter, it’s essentially a pre-order for a nearly-finished game. It’s officially licensed by Capcom and the campaign website includes manufacturer’s samples of the miniatures as well as an early version of the game manual.

Diablo’s Deckard Cain will be playable in Heroes of the Storm

Deckard Cain, the scholar and item identifier of Blizzard Entertainment’s Diablo series, is coming to Heroes of the Storm as a playable character, Blizzard announced today. While Cain being playable in Blizzard’s MOBA is no joke, some of his abilities definitely are.

Cain is a support character who can aid his Heroes of the Storm allies in battle by tossing them healing potions. He also benefits from sticking close to his teammates; when at least one other allied hero is nearby, Deckard gains 10 armor and his basic abilities recharge 50 percent faster.
