That version of the game will include the base game, the content released as part of Hitman’s Game of the Year Edition and a few extras.

The Pokémon Go Fest lawsuit will cost Niantic $1.58M more

On May 25, 2018, Pokémon Go players who attended the disastrous festival in Chicago’s Grant Park in the summer of 2017 will get a very unusual alert on their smartphones. Each of the more than 18,000 attendees will be offered the opportunity to go to a website, submit their receipts and receive reimbursement for their travel expenses. It’s all thanks to a settlement reached in a class-action lawsuit against the game’s developer, Niantic.

If users have the Pokémon Go app installed and allow for push notifications, they’ll receive a court-mandated offer directing them to a website for further information. Users must have registered for Pokémon Go Fest through the app. Most will also receive an email. If they follow the process, they should have their share of the $1.58 million settlement by November.

Travis Strikes Again sounds more promising than it looks

There are plenty of reasons to be excited about the return of Travis Touchdown, star of the No More Heroes series. Original director Goichi Suda, aka “Suda 51,” is back at the helm after years of stepping away from game design, and the earlier No More Heroes remain memorably quirky. Best of all, the pitch for Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes, coming to Nintendo Switch later this year, sounds great: Travis fights his way through seven various game genres, his adventure filled with jokey pastiche after pastiche.

Too bad that we have yet to really see any of that kind of content, with Grasshopper Manufacture instead choosing to demo a far less interesting portion of the game during a Nintendo event at Game Developers Conference. I tried out one of the game’s short co-op levels with Suda standing by, watching intently. Charming as his eagerness to see how people reacted to his latest game was, my co-op partner and I came away unenthused, even disappointed.

Logic challenges Drake’s Fortnite skills during Ellen performance

While celebrities playing video games isn’t anything new, Fortnite is reaching a pop culture saturation point that few games will be able to match. The latest example of this phenomenon is Logic talking shit about Drake’s Fortnite ability while performing his single during an appearance on Ellen.

“Tell that boy Drake he don’t want it with me on Fortnite!” Logic told the crowd in the middle of his performance.

PUBG’s new map makes the game faster and more technical than ever

Last night the latest map for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds dropped on a new, invite-only test server. It’s smaller by far than either of the two maps already released for the game, but it sacrifices nothing. In fact, it’s a dense playground that will appeal to hardcore players and skilled teams alike.

The map is called Codename: Savage for now, and it’s Battlegrounds first 4 km by 4 km map. Both of the previous maps were 8 km on a side, but that’s not the only difference.

Avengers: Infinity War directors ask the internet to do the impossible in 2018

If its directors are to be believed, Avengers: Infinity War is a movie that’s full to the brim with possible spoilers, and they’re kindly asking that fans don’t spoil what they see until everyone’s had the chance to watch it.

Joe and Anthony Russo tweeted out an image of Thanos’ Infinity Stones-encrusted glove holding down an informal statement of sorts. The statement explains that only a handful of people know Infinity War’s true plot and only a handful of fans will get the opportunity to see 30 minutes of the film before it’s released publicly. The message is clear: No one really knows anything about Infinity War, and the directors want to keep it that way.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War’s microtransactions are being removed from the game

The real-money microtransactions in Middle-earth: Shadow of War that soured the experience for many players — and helped fuel the controversy surrounding loot boxes in full-priced video games — are going away. Developer Monolith Productions announced this week that it will phase out the option to buy in-game currency and the ability to gain Orc followers via War Chests.

In a statement posted to the game’s website, Monolith said that the ability to spend money to buy Orcs “risked undermining the heart of our game, the Nemesis System.”
