Nintendo Switch eShop update adds a tiny, hidden highlight

At first, this week’s Nintendo Switch eShop update looks like one of the emptiest ever. A Nintendo Switch port of Don’t Starve, an eerie, artsy survival game from 2013, seemingly leads a pack of relative unknowns. Buried within the list, however, is a lovely game that’s perfectly pocket-sized, and one you may have missed after it first launched.

Burly Men at Sea, out now on Switch, may sound like a bro-y action game based on its title. It’s far from it: The game is a mixture of a point-and-click adventure and a visual novel, according to developer Brain&Brain. In Burly Men at Sea, three fishermen star in a folktale that’s narrated and sculpted by the player. There are multiple storylines to craft (which often takes as little as 10 minutes), each one leading the Brothers Beard through a creature-filled Scandinavia.

The servers for Fortnite are currently offline, and there’s no estimate for when they’ll be back up.

“Login is currently blocked across all Epic endpoints, including games, websites, and the Epic Games Launcher,” Epic Games said last night. “This is due to a database failure which we are working to resolve as quickly as possible. In a measure towards resolution, matchmaking will be blocked for a short period. Thank you for your patience!”

God of War’s 4K resolution mode isn’t the best way to play

God of War’s 4K resolution mode isn’t the best way to play

God of War is a stunning technical achievement for its single-take presentation alone. Less impressive, however, is the game’s 4K rendering mode on the PlayStation 4 Pro. It doesn’t seem able to maintain a solid 30 frames per second, and in an action game like this, that just doesn’t get the job done.

PS4 Pro users have two different rendering options for God of War: “Favor Resolution,” which runs the game at 4K resolution using checkerboard rendering, and “Favor Performance,” which displays the game at 1080p resolution. If you aren’t playing on a 4K television, the Resolution mode will use supersampling to run the game with increased detail on your lower-resolution display. The Resolution mode targets a frame rate of 30 fps, while the Performance mode unlocks the frame rate with a cap of 60 fps. (The graphics mode option is grayed out if you’re not using a PS4 Pro.)

Destiny 2’s next expansion, Warmind, launches May 8

Bungie will release the second expansion for Destiny 2, an update to the game titled Warmind, on May 8. The developer announced the Warmind expansion’s release date and name in a very low-key fashion — as part of an updated development roadmap that covers seasons three and four of Destiny 2.

Destiny 2 season three will kick off with the release of the Warmind expansion. Bungie said Warmind “will send you to new places to meet new heroes and battle new enemies. You’ll earn new loot and master new activities.”

Fortnites dance emotes are either the best or most annoying part of the game, depending on who you ask.

Developer Epic Games, however, is all about the little dance moves that players can perform in-game. The company has launched a contest, which kicked off on March 30 and ended last night, that looks to add a new emote — created by a player — to the game.

PUBG patch changes blue zone speed, altering the game’s pace

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds developer PUBG Corp. announced details of a new patch today, one that promises to significantly alter the pace of the game.

In every battle royale-style game, there’s a zone of death that constantly creeps in from the edge of the map. In Battlegrounds, that outside force is called the “blue zone,” which constantly pushes heavily armed players closer and closer together to give the game its trademark, pulse-pounding tension. Tweak that aspect of Battlegrounds, and you fundamentally change its overall pace.

An easy way to fake out your opponents in Fortnite

This Fortnite trick is going around Reddit, and it’s both simple and incredibly clever. You can take a look at someone using it in the gif below from this thread, but here’s what’s going on:

It’s one of those things that makes immediate sense once you see it in action, but it’s a move I would never have thought of trying in a million years. You can watch another example of this play in action below, from this thread on the topic.

Pokémon Go’s latest event leaves shiny hunters empty-handed

Pokémon Go’s latest event leaves shiny hunters empty-handed

An event running in Pokémon Go is causing a stir in the player base, which hyped up the promotion as the possible release of several new Pokémon variations. After a datamine revealed more than 100 shiny Pokémon within the game’s code, players are finding out that those shinies remain unattainable — much to their disappointment.

Niantic announced a weeklong event starting April 10 that increases the number of wild first-generation Pokémon. The campaign launched just days after a hacker unearthed the unannounced shiny Pokémon assets that had been added to the game as part of its most recent update. Although that update went live, the new shinies have yet to be seen in-game.
