A home repair simulator is one of Steam’s best-sellers

Upon opening up Steam’s best-sellers list this morning, I was surprised to see an unlikely newcomer. It’s called House Flipper, and it claims to be a sort of home repair simulation. Believe it or not, this is an incredibly earnest take on a viable business strategy that has come to dominate reality television, especially on networks like HGTV and TLC.

In House Flipper, you buy a distressed property, fix it up and then try to sell it. Through a combination of demolition, renovation and good old-fashioned sweat equity, the goal is to make the best use of your time and money to turn a profit. Everything is done from the first-person perspective, from picking up trash to putting a new island in the kitchen.

Destiny 2 brings back fan-favorite Crucible map for Iron Banner

May 22 marks the first Iron Banner event of season three in Destiny 2: Warmind. In anticipation of this weeklong PvP event, Bungie tweeted out a teaser of a beloved Crucible map from Destiny: Bannerfall.

Added in the Taken King expansion, Bannerfall takes players to a empty tower of the Last City, a location similar to Destiny’s and Destiny 2’s primary social spaces. Like the rest of the Tower, it’s a mix of smooth metal, lightly colored concrete, and tiny gardens. Players are able to navigate narrow buildings to get the jump on one another, or fight in wide courtyards. But this version of Bannerfall bears scars of the war with the Red Legion, as depicted in the Destiny 2 campaign.

Puma’s Sonic the Hedgehog sneaker collection is just subtle enough to work

Sonic the Hedgehog’s entire look is iconic, from the bizarrely blue fur down to his red sneakers and droopy socks. Many have tried to emulate his style, or at least his shoes, with varying success. The latest to try is Puma, the vaunted footwear brand, which will begin selling shoes inspired by Sonic starting June 5.

The Sega and Puma collaboration features two pairs of shoes: the RS-0 Sonic and the RS- Dr. Eggman, each drawing from the characters’ respective color palettes. Puma says it was drawn to Sonic’s fur when designing the shoe, as well as the rings that adorn the beloved Green Hill Zone level. Those influences are apparent from the get-go; take a look:

Best Buy ending Gamers Club Unlocked program

Best Buy ending Gamers Club Unlocked program

Electronics retailer Best Buy is no longer selling Gamers Club Unlocked, a membership program that granted 20 percent discounts on new video games and pre-orders. The company apparently broadcast the news to stores via an internal memo last week, though Polygon could not confirm its existence from any of the employees it spoke to.

While an informational page describing GCU still exists, the option to purchase a new membership has been removed from the Best Buy website. Polygon reached out to several Best Buy locations nationally and found that the part number has been deactivated in their computer systems, meaning that expiring memberships cannot be renewed. Store operators told us that existing memberships will be honored until they expire.

Resident Evil 7 coming to Nintendo Switch — but just in Japan for now

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is coming to Nintendo Switch at the end of the week — with some conditions attached. It’s in Japan only for now, and it’s apparently just a digital release.

The trailer above, for the survival horror franchise’s official YouTube account in Japan, bills it as the “cloud version” of the game, and that it’s launching May 24. It’s officially titled Biohazard 7: Resident Evil Cloud Version over there, which means users only have to install a 45 MB file on their Switch hard drive but of course need an in Internet connection to play the whole game..

Overwatch’s anniversary event skins and cosmetics leak out

Overwatch’s anniversary event is coming Tuesday, May 22 (and running through June 11, all platforms) but it looks like a server bug-out originating in Taiwan has already spilled the beans on all the skins, cosmetics and a new map.

There are 50 new cosmetics in the anniversary event, 11 of them skins. They also include new dance emotes for Brigitte, Doomfist and Moira, and all of that can be seen in the video above. The three characters were not around last year, so this marks their dancing-fool debuts.
