Tekken producer confirms the death of Tekken X Street Fighter

More than a decade after it was first announced, Bandai Namco’s crossover fighting game, Tekken X Street Fighter, appears to be finally, truly, and officially dead. Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada said in a broadcast earlier this month that “the project died” while still relatively early in development.

Harada made the comments during a stream of Harada’s Bar Radio, the producer’s YouTube talk and variety show. Speaking with Tekken 7 game director Kouhei Ikeda, Harada said of Tekken X Street Fighter, “Yeah, development stopped but we got about 30% done.”

FIFA Ultimate Team now shows pack contents before you buy

FIFA 21 Ultimate Team players may now preview the specific contents of every pack of cards sold in EA Sports’ extremely lucrative but heavily criticized mode. The change comes with certain catches, but it seems to answer long-running complaints and discomforts, ranging from government regulators in Europe to rank-and-file fans playing a microtransaction-filled game.

“Preview Packs” were introduced on Friday and are the only kind of packs sold in the FUT Shop through this year’s “Festival of FUTball”. It’s not clear if this is how any or all packs will be sold after then, though. Festival of FUTball started June 11 and runs until mid-July. FIFA 22 should launch in early fall.

Everyone can dress like Jack Sparrow in Sea of Thieves soon

Sea of Thieves developer Rare dropped a big surprise on Sunday during E3 2021’s Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase: Captain Jack Sparrow and Davy Jones are coming to the silly seafaring game in a new, Pirates of the Caribbean-themed adventure called Sea of Thieves: A Pirate’s Life. On Thursday, Rare gave fans another look at that forthcoming content with a new gameplay trailer.

The new trailer shows off more of the new story, spooky new areas, new enemies, and new cosmetics — yes, you and your crew will be able to dress up like Jack Sparrow — coming in Sea of Thieves: A Pirate’s Life when it launches June 22 as a free update. The gameplay trailer also apparently reveals that players will come face to face, literally, with the game’s Kraken.

Ninja Theory gives an update on Hellblade 2, which seems far away

Ninja Theory’s sequel to Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice didn’t make an appearance at Microsoft’s Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase at E3 2021 for what sounds like a very good reason: The game, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, appears to still be quite early in development, based on a new update from the developer.

Tameem Antoniades, “chief creative ninja” at Ninja Theory, said in a development update Thursday that the Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 team is currently “building a good chunky slice of the game before we then move into full production to build out the rest.”

Most of the external parts of an Xbox controller are customizable in the Xbox Design Lab. Players can also choose to laser engrave their controllers for an extra cost. The updated store encompasses the new Xbox Wireless Controller, which is compatible with Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. It’s also adding new colors, like bright options in red, blue, and yellow-green.

Destiny 2’s weekly update suggests the Witch Queen walks among us

A new update in Destiny 2 suggests that Savathun, the titular Witch Queen in the game’s upcoming expansion and sister to Oryx, has taken human form in the Last City. And fans are freaking out.

As Destiny 2’s story has improved, players have gotten even more ravenous for details on upcoming story beats and expansions. So far, Season of the Splicer has told a mostly contained story about prejudice and refugees. But players discovered a new lore page on Tuesday that really escalated the threat in this Destiny 2 season, potentially setting up story beats for the upcoming expansion.

Microsoft Flight Simulator’s new update looks Nordic-ulous

Microsoft Flight Simulator’s virtual world is getting a gorgeous new update, making the game’s Nordic region more beautiful than ever. World Update 5: Nordics for Asobo Studio’s flight sim gives some love and attention to landmarks and airports across Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. The update is free and available now.

Microsoft says that World Update 5 includes improvements in detail to “broad swaths of landscapes, enhancements to regional architecture, improved data for 100 airports and 78 carefully selected points of interest.” As seen in the gameplay trailer above, those points of interest include Lego House, Frederiksborg Castle, and the city of Copenhagen in Denmark; Uddevalla Bridge, Avicii Arena, and Sarek National Park in Sweden; Olavinlinna and the city of Helsinki in Finland; Flakstad, the Arctic Cathedral, and Holmenkollbakken in Norway; and Hallgrímskirkja, Jökulsárlón, and Hvítserkur in Iceland. Not shown: how much I’d really like to visit any of those places in real life right now.

OlliOlli World is reminding us what it’s like to be outside again

In the first level of OlliOlli World, I fly down a boardwalk on my skateboard. Riding by, I see people dining outside under large umbrellas along the shore. I land a backside grind while riding a rail over swimmers. Confetti flies on the screen because I just nailed a sick trick. The world is dripping in warm pink hues and turquoise accents. It’s a beautiful day, and everything feels good.

The summertime vibes are part of OlliOlli World, a cartoony 2.5D skateboarding action-platformer coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X this winter. It’s being made by Roll7, the studio behind Laser League and Not a Hero (not to mention OlliOlli and OlliOlli 2). In it, you play as a skater who joins a new crew that decides to take a road trip around the whimsical world of Radlandia.

Valorant’s new Agent is a robot who can disable enemy abilities

Valorant’s newest Agent is a robot named KAY/O with the power to suppress his enemies’ abilities. The new Agent will be part of Valorant’s Episode 3 update, which should also include a fairly large patch for the game.

KAY/O is an Initiator, which means he’ll be great at pushing his way onto sites and breaking through enemy defenses. One of KAY/O’s abilities allows him to throw a special knife that prevents enemies in a small area from using their abilities — an effect called suppressed. His Ultimate includes something similar but radiates out from his body. KAY/O’s Ultimate also gives him a Combat Stim when he uses it, and if he dies during the Ultimate he’ll have the chance to be revived by a teammate.

While his suppression effects are his most unique, KAY/O’s other two abilities should be just as useful. He has a flash that can be charged to make it harder for enemies to look away from, as well as a grenade that will do huge amounts of damage if players are at the center of its cluster.
