CD Projekt has become Europe's second-biggest videogame company

Over the last few months Polish company CD Projekt have had their market value go from $6.8 billion to over $8 billion, thanks to the popular Netflix series boosting sales of The Witcher games by as much as 554%, as well as the release of a Switch port of The Witcher 3 (which now has save game integration with Steam and GOG copies, by the way). Anticipation for Cyberpunk 2077 obviously remains strong as well.

Spawn is coming to Mortal Kombat 11 on March 8

Spawn's creator Todd McFarlane recently tweeted out some photos of a new "Mortal Kombat Spawn" action figure showing the grimdark superhero holding a sword, standing on top of a decapitated enemy, and wearing a very chunky spiked booty on one leg. I haven't read a Spawn comic since 1995, so I have no idea if this is what he looks like now or if it's a significant redesign.

Wild siege weapon sandbox Besiege is 50% off for launch, so here are some GIFs

After a few years in Early Access, siege weapon playground Besiege released this week to little fanfare. Which is inappropriate because it is in theory, at least, about the age of fanfares. That is wrong and bad to me, so we're going to celebrate one of the most hilarious games of the last few years, a physics sandbox that encourages players to create absolutely crazy engines of war and set them loose on a bunch of campaign levels and/or each other. At its launch, gifs of Besiege in action were a staple on Twitter and Reddit, so I'd like to show off some of my favorites from a casual perusal of some out there.

Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem hotfix brings greater stability and balance tweaks

Action RPG Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem had a rocky launch with malfunctioning multiplayer servers, but developer Wolcen Studio is moving forward. The Wolcen 1.0.4.0 hotfix is here, addressing both server issues and balance concerns. Overpowered abilities like Bane of Tyranny and Secure Parry have been fixed, as have broken nodes Blistering Embrace and Shattering Strike. The Aspects of Apocalypse have also gotten a pretty extensive overhaul, with damage, costs, and length receiving big tweaks to one effect: Aspects now focus on a much larger short-term boost to damage at a higher cost, to make them feel more powerful. The rest of the tweaks and fixes generally focus on stability, bugs, and server overhauls. You can read the full patch notes on both the Wolcen website and Steam.

Devotion, the Taiwanese game removed from Steam, is being preserved by Harvard

Devotion is a horror game by Taiwanese developers Red Candle, which they removed from Steam shortly after release due to controversy over its inclusion of art mocking Chinese president Xi Jinping. Though Devotion is no longer available for sale, it is being preserved thanks to Harvard University. The Harvard-Yenching Library, which houses the university's East Asian collections, has added both Devotion and Red Candle's previous horror game Detention (which is still available on Steam) to their collection.

Activision takes legal action against Call of Duty: Modern Warfare battle royale Reddit leaker

Activision has not confirmed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be getting a battle royale mode, but there have been plenty of hints and leaks. One, an image of people with guns standing on top of vehicles beneath the words Call of Duty: Warzone, has got Activision particularly riled up—to the point where they've subpoenaed Reddit for details of the user responsible for posting it, Torrentfreak reports.

Kerbal Space Program 2 trailer shows off Nuclear Propulsion, Metallic Hydrogen, Torchships

Kerbal Space Program 2 may have been delayed, but that hasn’t slowed down development or the dreams of a billion tiny green things. A new mini-documentary slash trailer from the new studio Private Division talks about the near-future technologies that have been included in the massive sequel to everyone’s favorite rocket explosion simulator. Kerbal Space Program 2 is pretty highly anticipated around here, given that the first game was long considered one of the best games on PC.

Obsidian’s survival game of tiny children, Grounded, has a Steam page

Obsidian’s surprising reveal from last year was that the studio known principally for RPGs is going to release a survival game: Grounded. Grounded is a pretty cute game where you play as children shrunk down to tiny size trying to survive in a backyard environment. Like other recent big survival successes, such as Subnautica, it’s a defined experience with a definite ending and a storyline to follow. Grounded just now got a Steam page ahead of its Early Access release sometime this year, and there’s a bit more to learn about the game after its reveal announcement last November.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is coming to Early Access this year

In an event for investors at New York Toy Fair, Hasbro has announced that Baldur’s Gate 3 will come to Early Access later this year. Hasbro is the parent company of Wizards of the Coast, who have licensed Dungeons & Dragons and Baldur’s Gate to Larian Studios for the third game in the series.
