Test out some space feudalism in the Star Dynasties demo

Star Dynasties is an empire-management grand strategy game where players take on the role of a family of space nobility shepherding humanity through a new dark age. We first saw it back in August at  Gamescom, when I said that it seemed a lot like Crusader Kings in space. You can now get a taste of it, as it has a demo available on Steam for this week's digital Indiecade event from October 16th to 24th. Star Dynasties is made by developer Pawley Games and published by Iceberg Interactive.

Destiny 2 cheat-seller shut down by Bungie

PerfectAim sells cheats for a variety of online games, specializing in aimbots as well as "ESP" hacks that allow cheaters to see other players through walls and terrain, remove of weapon recoil and spread, and so on. They charge a monthly subscription per game and in return provide product support and a promise their cheats will go undetected—except in the case of Destiny 2.

Here's Doom running on some Minecraft sheep, sort of

First, Trey Del Bonis created a Minecraft mod called rottenplayer that changes the colour of sheep to match video input. The first demonstration was a version of an old meme called Bad Apple!! As the description for that video explains, "Bad Apple!! is a song from the Touhou game series.  It's developed a culture of being played on things that normally aren't made to play videos, like sheep.  A lot like how people run Doom on things that weren't meant to run Doom, like printers."

Larian explains how a quality assurance bot helps test Baldur's Gate 3

Thousands of players are currently experiencing and providing feedback on Baldur's Gate 3 in Early Access (it's being played by 28,268 people on Steam as I type this sentence), but before they get their chance it goes through the quality assurance team at Larian Studios. And before the humans there get to work on each new build, a bot they call the world-tester or the "Super Gamer" goes in—like a canary down a coal mine.

A new trailer for the XIII remake shows off weapons and tools

XIII, a comic-book FPS from 2003 about an amnesiac who wakes up on a beach with Roman numerals tattooed on his body and a hitman out to get him, is being remade this year. The latest trailer tries hard to make a pretty ordinary selection of guns sound exciting before moving on to XIII's selection of special tools—a grappling hook, lockpicks, and spying microphone. They make it seem more like a stealth-espionage game than a vanilla shooter, which is intriguing. Objects like bottles can apparently be used as improvised weapons too, which seems like another nice touch.

Three LucasArts classics are coming to Xbox Game Pass

Tim Schafer recently appeared on the Xbox Podcast to announce that remastered versions of three LucasArts classics—Grim Fandango, Day of the Tentacle, and Full Throttle—will be coming to Xbox Game Pass. Now that Microsoft owns Tim Schafer's studio Double Fine it's likely their future games like Psychonauts 2, which is still in development, will eventually find their way onto the service, but it's nice that a whole new generation will also have the opportunity to be frustrated and baffled by classic adventure game puzzle nonsense.

Spelunky 2's first area has been patched so it's easier

Spelunky 2's initial Dwelling level has been patched to make it easier, a step towards resolving a lot of players' principal beef with the game. The first levels of Spelunky, 1-1 through 1-4, are called the Dwelling, and this week's patch has tweaked them to be a bit different by changing monster spawns, a common complaint among players. This patch follows an announcement earlier in the week that developer Mossmouth was looking at doing just this following player complaints that area 1 was harder than area 2.

Months after studio closure, The Lord of the Rings: Adventure Card Game gets an update

More than a few people probably thought that after the closure of Fantasy Flight Interactive earlier this year their sole release—The Lord of the Rings: Adventure Card Game—was dead in the water. Not so. Publisher Asmodee Digital announced earlier this year that the digital mercenaries over at Antihero Studios would be taking over, and according to fans Antihero has been pretty communicative ever since. This week is the first major update to the game since last fall.

Stardew Valley's next big update has split-screen co-op

Stardew Valley creator Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone has announced on his twitter that the game's version 1.5 update will include split-screen local co-op for up to four players on PC, though on some other platforms it might be limited to two. Barone's tweet was accompanied by a screenshot of split-screen play that contained a myriad of interesting new things likely to show up in Stardew soon. There's no firm release date for Stardew Valley's 1.5 update, but it's likely that it will release towards the end of the year. 2019's big update, 1.4, released near the end of November.
