Valve fixes Steam Hardware Survey, Windows 10 is back on top

A surprising resurgence in the popularity of Windows 7, and a marked drop in Windows 10, was reflected in the November 2017 Steam Hardware and Software Survey. At first glance it looked like gamers were ditching the (relatively) new version of Windows for the tried-and-true stability of good ol' Win7, but Paul suggested a different theory: That the explosive popularity of Playerunknown's Battlegrounds in China had thrown the balance out of whack.

Destiny 2's new 'Prismatic Matrix' should make Eververse items easier to earn

There's a lot going on in the latest edition of This Week at Bungie, which isn't terribly surprising given that the Destiny 2: Warmind expansion drops next week. A massive collection of vintage PCs and games is going up for auction this month

Bill Loguidice, who has written for PC Gamer about PC gaming history and his massive gaming collection in the past, is selling his hoard of vintage computers and games later this month. Other items will be on sale, but I'd expect the gaming auction to take up a good part of the venue. It's that big.

Rust gets a safe zone in the new Compound Update

Rust is interesting, and also infuriating, largely because it is completely without rules. Players can work cooperatively, and they can also murder each other without penalty. Trading is a big part of surviving, and getting shot in the face while you're trying to do a deal is a big part of not surviving. What's a poor soul, dropped naked and alone into the midst of a cold, rocky wilderness, to do?

Asus patches older Intel motherboards to protect against Spectre and Meltdown

Right around a month ago, Intel announced it had completed the release of microcode updates for products launched within the last 9+ years to protect against Spectre and Meltdown. It was then up to Intel's hardware partners to issue BIOS updates based on the latest microcode, and Asus has begun doing that for some of its older products. Specifically, Asus now has new firmware available for several boards based on Intel's 9-series chipsets.
