Fallout 76's VATS is pretty disappointing, here it is in action

I'm not sure what I was expecting from VATS in Fallout 76, which we got to play during a hands-on session last week at an event in West Virginia. In Fallout 3, 4 and New Vegas, the Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System lets you slow down time to target the different body parts of your enemies. Target their arms so they'll drop their weapons. Cripple their legs to slow them down. Aim for their head or other weak points, or cycle through several enemies and line up devastating shots on all of them. VATS also gave the combat in prior Fallout games a dramatic and cinematic feel: at times the camera would leave your character's POV and frame you in a hero (or villain) shot as you took your enemy down.

Arena RTS The Maestros is all about mutating your troops to victory

An interesting-looking new strategy game popped up on Steam in the last few days: The Maestros. It’s an RTS that focuses on using a single hero and a handful of troops to get victory in an arena map with other players and NPCs. It’s currently in a promising Early Access state, and feels like a match of Warcraft 3 where you didn’t have to build a base and you’re painfully limited on what troops you can get before the real fighting actually begins.

This Stardew Valley mod helps you manage the pesky museum and library

I think we can all agree* that the town museum-cum-library is the worst part of Stardew Valley to interact with. You have to donate a new object to rearrange it. You have to save room in your inventory for the junky books you find, maybe even throw out something you desperately need—obnoxious when the books are spawned randomly. There’s a mod that fixes these problems: The very pragmatically named Archaeology House Content Management Helper

Warcraft 3’s Mal’Ganis the dreadlord could be Heroes of the Storm’s next character

After a few days of tweeting cryptic gifs, the Heroes of the Storm Twitter account has put out an image of a full-on Warcraft Nathrezim Dreadlord. Yesterday, it tweeted a gif a lot like some people getting destroyed by the dreadlord ability Carrion Swarm, and today, voila: a full body shot of a bat-winged corruption demon. It’s about time for the game to get a new character, so we’re expecting that this big demon is it, and it seems like the demon may well be Mal’Ganis. An exciting prospect if you’ve played Warcraft 3, since Mal’Ganis is so pivotal to that game’s plot.

Monster Hunter: World’s Autumn Harvest event comes to PC

Monster Hunter: World is getting delightfully spoopy with its Autumn Harvest in-game event, bringing catty little jack o’ lanterns and witchy, warlocky new hunting garb. Those that log in during the festival will get extra rewards—most notably doubled lucky vouchers for quest rewards, a character change voucher, and Autumn Harvest tickets for seasonal armor. All the seasonal armor for this event is layered armor, meaning you can use it as an appearance over your regular sets for the perfect blend of fashion and stats. Autumn Harvest started on Friday, October 5th and wraps up on Thursday, October 18th at 23:59 UTC.

Space crash management sim RimWorld releases October 17th

After five and a half years, Ludeon Studios will finally release the 1.0 version of RimWorld on October 17th. Originally scheduled for much earlier this year, version 1.0 saw delays based on what the developer called “the 90/10 principle, where the first 90% of development takes 90% of the time, and the final 10% takes another 90% of the time.” The developer has not committed to further updates for the game other than supporting fan translations and a bug-fixing patch. However, the announcement post does say that they can think of “a variety of interesting directions to go with the game.”
